After two conference games UK is second worst in the conference in scoring defense.

An 8th place finish would be absolutely unacceptable. If that were to happen we would finish the regular season at 20-11. Better win a game or two in the SECT or we would be looking at an 8-9 seed most likely.

You’re failing to take into account that this year’s SEC is not like any other SEC season before. A .500 conference record doesn’t mean the same thing and won’t be seeded the same as in years past.

And, yeah, I think that is a reasonable prediction for us. Not because of anything we’re doing wrong, but simply because the conference is SO friggin stacked this season.

I know the SEC is great this year. But, there is no scenario where UK finishing in 8th place in the SEC should be acceptable to any UK fan.

He fixed it.

I am quite confident we will finish better than 9-9.
We might not have won anyway (the way we shot the ball), but I think there had to be a ref trying to make sure UGA covered the spread on Tuesday. So the results of that game may negatively skew any analysis.

Big Saturday coming up as most of the SEC top teams have road games: Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, and Kentucky. Who survives?

Let's hope for better.

I’m not accepting 8th place in the SEC regardless of how tough the SEC is. You can put on candy striped pants and cheer for Indiana at that point
What do you mean not accepting? What are you gonna do? If 8th place happens and that gets you a 5 or 6 seed with wins over Duke, Florida, Gonzaga and UL ( more good wins coming) and a coach that had zero players on the roster in April, I say most would be ok with that and believe that a pretty good first season under the circumstances.

"Not accepting" an 8th place finish? Serious question? What do you intend to do if they finish 8th or worse? Quit watching? Give up your tickets (if you have them)? Demand Pope resign? Stop donating money (if you do)? Email/tweet your displeasure to sports news outlets? Stage protests outside of the basketball offices or Central Bank Center? Seriously, what do you intend to do?

I’ll be disappointed. It doesn’t mean I have to “accept” it. An no, I’ve been consistent before the season and during the season. I’m not one of these people who is flying off into “we will lose 10-12 games in the SEC” every time we win. Nor am I someone who is shooting to “we are going to win 14 games” every time we win. I have a very fair approach to expectations in my view. I find it funny how quickly everyone went from “understanding the assignment” to defeatist bottom feeding nonsense due to one loss. I’m not saying you, I’m just saying a lot of people

Eyeroll. Lord, this is hilarious. No I’m just not happy with an 8th place finish. What kind of weird stretch you have to get to to make that mountain out of a molehill?

I don’t even know what to say in response to how absurd this question is. I feel like if you can’t understand the difference between “not accepting” an 8th place SEC finish and quit watching/firing the coach that’s gonna be a you issue. No, read above…I love Pope. Lol. Y’all are something else sometimes

Not being happy with it and "not accepting it" are two entirely different things. You in fact WILL accept it if with finish 8th or worse unless you intend to try to do something about it.

🤦‍♂️ Not going to argue semantics with you. Finishing 8th in the SEC at Kentucky is not an “acceptable” finish. I’d bet you money that Mark Pope would agree with me on that. It wouldn’t mean he should be fired…it wouldn’t mean he is a bad coach. There are good reasons why it is easier to finish eighth or worse this year but that is not the same as it being “acceptable”. I would absolutely consider the regular season to be unsuccessful to finish 8th in the SEC. Having to explain something this rudimentary in such granular detail when it was already obvious what I was intending to say is lame. My statement and views do not have to be your views and if you think finishing 8th is “acceptable”, more power to you. Again, I don’t expect to finish 8th anyway. I trust my coach and team and expect to finish somewhere between 3-6 this year, which isn’t unreasonable.

My point is that you WILL accept it. No one said you had to be happy with it. If you said you wouldn't be happy with it, no one would have said otherwise.

I get what you're saying, and as a baseline I would agree. 8th place SEC finishes are generally not an acceptable finish at UK.

However, there are nuances and extenuating circumstances that have to be accounted for on occasion. This year is one of those years.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course. I just don't think it's realistic, and you'll be setting yourself up for disappointment and consternation instead of just being able to enjoy the ride this season.
