Sorry, guys, I completely forgot to start the first-half thread, somehow! But I see you started quarter threads, so...thanks?

Anyway, If I told you Luka Garza had 6 points and Pete Nance had 17 at the half, you'd probably think Northwestern was winning. But they're down 9 at the break.

Why? CJ Fredrick has 17 points, NU has 9 TOs (Iowa is +9 in points of turnovers) and Iowa has 8 offensive rebounds (and are +8 in second-half points).

Nance is having the game of his life, though – 7-9 from the floor, 3-4 on 3s, 3 rebounds, 1 block.

Iowa isn't just grabbing offensive rebounds, they're also tipping the ball back out for second chance opportunities. They're a smart, disciplined team. NU needs to cut down on the turnovers and limit Iowa's second chance points to have a shot in this game.

There was a first half thread? Didn’t see it.

Watching NU turn the ball over and over against the toughest opponent they've faced is hard to watch. I think there were 4 straight tos. Iowa's rep is well deserved - they're shooting the lights out. And Garza isn't winning the game by himself, as so many feared.

I’d not have guessed that it would be against the IA guards that Buie would look the worst he has looked all season

I like the scrappier play this half. More offensive rebounds. Good to still be in striking distance.

We could benefit from spending some periods of the game with Young and Nance on the court at the same time

That is total horse***** call. Nonsense call. That is just bs. He blocked the ball. Just give the bleeping game to Iowa refs. Ridiculous

That’s the softest tech/personal foul/conduct penalty I’ve ever seen called in competitive sports.

These refs really do suck. Iowa is allowed to do as much over-the-back rebounding as they want. Garza is allowed to bump anyone he wants. Cats aren’t allowed to block.

Definitely. An Iowa player just demonstratively flailed his arms around after the foul leading to the commercial break and nothing.

If you are going to slap Nance with a “T” for next to nothing, that should have been called too.

These refs should be censured and fired. Corrupt!! Turned the course of the game with BS. Seriously should be looked into. Nice when u have a 6th player on the floor

Garza definitely bumps a ton of people in lane, but he’s pretty crafty about it. Always has his hands up and moves his feet very well.
