Well, this was looking like it was gonna a long, ugly night as Wisconsin came out smoking and NU fell behind 28-11. But Pete Nance came off the bench to give the Cats a spark and they closed the half by hitting 4 of 5 shots to pull to within 34-28 at the break.

Given where they started, I'll take it.

Nance has 8 and Young 7 to lead NU, while Davison and Reuvers have 7 apiece for the Badgers.

Except for UW shooting the lights out to start the game, NU is playing with them. Woulda been easy for NU to quit early, but CCC kept them playing.

I want it to be close near the end and see NU somehow just take it away from UW Senior Day and Prtizl and all the rest. IT COULD HAPPEN! NU fans' dues have been overpaid all season long.

GO CATS!

Their guys are often smaller, but tougher. Kopp getting blocked and then beat by Trice was a huge swing. Our entire team needs an off-season in the weight room.

Good idea by Boo to get it to Kopp on the break, but bad execution. Drive a little further into that defense, at the guy who is going to pick up Miller, then dish. By committing to the pass so early, Miller ended up having to shoot from way too deep.

Also, this team must be close to setting a record for terrible turnovers.

5 points in 11 minutes just is not good enough. They're kind of waiting around for us, and we're not talking advantage

We just go through these long scoring droughts too often.

Wish we had at least one more year of Spencer.

To open the second half by jumping back into the hole we'd just clawed our way out of was a killer.

Wisconsin is gonna be the #1 seed in the big ten tourney, the toughest in America. They are a bunch of smart, tough, disciplined veterans who can shoot. We played them tough but also have plenty to work on. The good news abounds—Young is a beast to guard on one one, Nance is dominating aspects of the game, Berna and Kopp could be a killer set of tall shooting wings, Buie has been off but we’ve seen his ability. Jones has shown he can be a big ten caliber big man.

There’s plenty of stuff to be hopeful about, and plenty of room to improve, especially in the weight room.

Beran has a sweet shot and is aggressive toward the basket — but he needs to get a lot stronger to finish at the rim. He got blocked twice on dunks tonight.

Buie has awesome instincts but his shot selection is questionable. Needs to develop a consistent three to open his drives, and also learn when to give it up instead of forcing an acrobatic layup. He’s also got to get stronger; guy is gonna keep getting bumped around and he needs to be able to play through that.

Nance has really flashed over the last few games. Much more aggressive rebounding, more confident in his mid-range shot. Needs to develop a consistent three-point shot, get stronger and stay dialed in. The mental part I think is probably most important.

Kopp needs to get quicker. A lot quicker. I don’t know if that’s possible. But it looks like guys just keep driving right by him. At least this can be hidden on the offensive side — if his teammates are clicking and posing a threat, he should be able to find an open shot.

Young needs to keep staying in shape, get stronger and work on his shooting. I like this kid. He’s maximizing his potential. But getting to the line won’t mean much if that free throw shooting stays in the low 60s.

Jones is in the same boat. Stay in shape, get stronger, develop a consistent shot. He can’t be shooting 50% from the line.
