Second straight season with no point guard

Crazy that Pope has allowed the exact same flaw that derailed last season to get us again: being forced to play without a true point guard.

Only difference is last year it didn’t get us until Butler got injured later in the season. This year it’s getting us right from the start.

You’d think he would’ve learned his lesson: you need at least two quality true points on your roster, NOT just one. After all, it is basically the most important position in the sport.

I can’t believe a shoulder injury from the blue white game derailed the season but it did.

would’ve been nice to have Acaden Lewis right now.
Lewis is playing well so far for Villanova. He'd be starting for Kentucky right now. Alas, Pope put all his plans into Lowe and his contingency plan of Aberdeen is better off the ball. The whole season is in train wreck mode.

Pope gave it a good try. Got to hand it to him, but this is not a program where you bring in a 50+ something year old coach with a weak resume.

Typical crazy, entitled UK fan, expecting more than one true PG with only $22 million to spend on roster construction!

What’s next? Paying $2.5 million+ on a true Center that doesn’t have a near career ending knee injury?

No wonder Pope can’t sign any 5* studs, or 1st option portal stars, the fan base’s expectations are comically unrealistic!

We had 2 last year. BOTH got hurt.
This year went with 1 PG and 2 Combo guards. The PG got hurt, and the Combo guards are struggling as PGs.

This might be the pitch that was sold to us, but I never quite bought it, because there was no real evidence that Aberdeen or JJ actually were combo guards.

Aberdeen‘s minutes at Florida came exclusively at the wing spots, he never played point there. So how was he supposedly a combo guard? Same with JJ, he’s never proven that he can effectively play the point at this level.

And, frankly, neither guy looks like a combo to me. Instead, they both look like guys who would be best used only at the wing spots.

Every player now is incentivized to stay in college as long as possible (assuming they are halfway good enough to receive NIL). Lowe might have two more years after this year. That's what Kriissa did.

I guarantee you will paid so much more than anyone else. Can't prove it, but I bet Pope let JQ fill out the check.

Think I'd go ahead and change my avi if I thought a coach was as incompetent as you seem to have for awhile now...

(Not even defending Pope right now as I'm on the "We need to move on asap" train if he can't somehow turn things around by the end of the season.)

Bringing in Aberdeen and running off our backup PG was a mistake. And I like Aberdeen, but we needed a backup point guard and we needed shooting far more than we needed what Aberdeen brings us.

Pope also should have let Garrison walk, and used his NIL money elsewhere.
Wouldn't say Pope ran off Lewis, he left on his own and didn't want to compete (sounds like there are family factors involved too).

That and we did originally sign two true points guards for this season. One didn't want to play behind the other one.

This is one thing that really bothers me, I know it can’t be helped but I’ve never seen a team with two different point guards in two years that have shoulders popping out of place. I mean this is odder than fu—, how does this happen to a team two years in a row with two different players. Also throw in the fact that neither have or had a back up capable of doing what they could do. This will kill a teams chances of winning a national championship. In March the cream of the crop shows, strong guard play wins games in the NCAAs. We have several off guards who are good, but the point guard is the heart of the team.
