Im starting to research indoor/outdoor cameras for property surveillance, there’s a lot of options so I’m interested in opinions. Looking to run 4-5 cameras with high resolution and night vision, also need long range (300ft away) for another item but could forgo. My internet is marginal due to living in a rural area, like say 9mb down and 2mb up.

I’m not opposed to cctv or wireless, at this point it’s wide open. I typically do a lot of my own work/installations but I would hire a company if their system is good. Don’t want to pay a subscription for recording but would for the right system. The only requirement is detailed resolution to identify a potential thief, I want to get them busted or go attack them myself. Thanks

With that low of internet, you will have to go with a closed system. My neighbor had one installed with 4 cameras for $1200.00

I have been looking into cameras and didn't want to run wires to everything so I can't give an opinion on those. However, it seems to go wireless that the Arlo Pro 2 or Arlo Ultra 4K is the best. You get notifications on your phone, can speak to them through the camera and they are rechargeable.

I just setup a 4 camera Arlo Pro system at my mom's house. It is pretty nice, but the talking through the cameras suck. You can hear the people on camera fine but you almost have to yell for them to hear you and that is with it being quiet outside. We got one of the Arlo doorbells and connected it to her old doorbell and it works much better for talking to people at the door.

All in the system cost like $500 and is/can be completely wireless if you don't get the doorbell stuff or buy the remote chime for the doorbell if you do get it (another $50 I think) and don't connect it to a current doorbell. I believe the cameras last for a few months before they need charging. It doesn't require a fee to use with 7 day online video storage that is free or you can use an SD card on the base unit. You can use your phone or tablet (I think you can do it with a computer by going to a web page) to access the cameras and videos that are recorded.

I don't think this system would work for the original poster with the distance and internet speed. You can get a device to increase the range of your wifi but nothing that would help with the internet speed. Unless maybe they can get a modem from their cell phone company that has very good service in their area.
