This board is not the only ones bashing the SC offense.

''Last week I put my hand on the panic button, today I’m smashing it. The Gamecocks averaged 4.52 yards per play on Saturday in a 38-10 win over South Carolina State. That’s an abhorrent offensive showing for a team going against an FCS opponent. The Gamecocks didn’t even score an offensive touchdown in the first half. Of their 17 points before the break, 14 were scored on punt returns by Vicari Swain.

It’s pretty rare for a power-conference offense to amass under 4.6 yards per play against an FCS opponent. Since the start of the 2018 season, this is only the 13th time it’s happened. Considering most FBS powers play an FCS team once a season, that’s pretty staggering. ''

Well, one of two things is going to happen. Either the lightbulb will come on with the offense and everything will be peachy and we'll reach new heights...or...we're going to completely collapse and Beamer will be right back to square one, having lost all momentum from last seasons perceived gains. The fans won't handle that well and he'll be on the hot seat.

We cannot keep getting to the base of the mountain top and keep collapsing, ala Spurrier seemingly having the team over the hump and then making that idiotic "2 or 3 more years" comment - completely collapsing the recruiting for a decade (and here we are), being undefeated and losing to Navy, to now being in a very solid position to make the CFP if we can just take care of business.

History + Chicken Curse + bad decision making by our different coaching staffs over the years doesn't bode well for us. We'll see.

Abhorrent is a word that hasn't been used here to describe our offense.

Our offense has been objectively bad. That FCS stat is brutal.

Swain had almost half as many yards on punt returns as our offense did.

Just not good, no matter which way you try to look at it.

My thoughts exactly when I saw those stats

If the "light comes on" for the OL, then all that will matter is that we won those first two games, not by how much.

The offense clearly played uninspired. Be it because of the rain delay, sloppy field conditions, playing conservatively (not wanting to get anyone injured), or knowing/thinking that they could "mail it in" against SC State. I am hoping that the coaches can straighten it out this week as we go into SEC schedule. I would rather play uninspired and be 2-0 than 0-2 any day.... But, its time to kick it up a notch for sure.

I’m pretty sure that King Ward has used the word abhorrent on here at some point 😂

To me "the light comes on" would mean they somehow got together and coached themselves up between games.

Somebody has to flip the switch for ''the light to come on''
I'm not sure how the light comes one from one game to the next for the OL. If it's just poor offensive execution or bad defense, you can tweak play calling, schemes, alignments, etc. What can you change from one game to the next for OL aside from personnel? It would seem the best you can hope for is gradual improvement over the course of the season.

The road before us is tough, particularly with Oklahoma seeming to have regained legitimacy. LSU, A&M, and Missouri - all on the road, doesn't bode well for the current version of us.

No it does not. If LSU is a night game, forget about it. A&M hasn't played anyone serious yet, but have ND and Auburn coming up, so we'll see what they look like. But, on the road there, I don't like our odds.

It may just not be the OL either. David Pollack, who was high on Sellers in the preseason, says he just look good this year. As he watched the first two games, he said Sellers doesn't look to be a guy who can sit in the pocket and pick you apart.

Gradual improvement may work. We have vandy and a beatable Missouri team followed by Kentucky.

We could see gradual improvement and easily beat 2 out of 3 there. Then be 4-1 going into the tough part of the schedule where we hope to duplicate last years steady improvement.

Honestly, it sounds like they spent a lot of time "bonding" this summer. How much time they spent focusing solidly on football will show up this week for sure.

Maybe last week was an anomaly... and the real offense was our first drive vs. Va Tech.

A lot remains to be seen... and, yeah, I'm not super optimistic given what we've seen on the field.
