Brits pronounce both Davies & Davis as Davis. But then they created their stupid fake accent too.
That's close. But its actually pronounced DAH-vee. The "s" is silent...both of them. Little known fact that the county was first settled by French Canadians. In fact, "Owensboro" is actually French for either "festival of the apples" or "whale's ******" depending on the regional translation.
It’s DAY-veez, but like most things west of I-65, it’s dumb.
Davis. I went to Daviess County High School. It got old correcting people.

Union County native here. It’s pronounced Davis. @WildcatFan1982 is spot on about chipped mutton > pulled pork.
Grew up in Owensboro. Anyone who doesn't pronounce it "Davis" screams outsider like people that say Louisville like it has three syllables.
