He carried them to the SEC Championship in the Postseason. They made their run to the NCAA Tournament once he replaced Quade Green in the lineup and went to the Sweet 16 in a season that most people (including many Kentucky fans) refused to embrace the team for whatever reason and thought they'd fail to make the NCAA Tournament--or get beat in the 1st Rd to Davidson. They are the last SEC Championship Tournament winners. Cal wanted to play through PJ Washington and somehow Quade Green took the biggest shot of the game....so out of that year's team--not what you'd want but that's a 1 and done scenario in the NCAA Tournament when the wrong people are put in wrong positions.

That team delivered more than the '22/'23 teams that are loved despite having people quitting on the team.

He’s a throwback player that works very well. I love watching him work. Showed it here. But never thought he’d be this good. I root for those types in all walks of life. Awesome story for SGA.

He started from the 16th game until the end of the season. During those 21 games, he averaged:

17.2ppg
4.8rpg
5.9apg

In the postseason, he averaged:

20.7ppg
5.7rpg
6.3apg

Potentially the best player in the SEC for the 2nd half of the season after he was put in the starting lineup.

Why didn't Ulysses S. Grant lead the USA to military victories as an 18 year old West Point cadet?

Why didn't Martin Luther King Jr. lead the country to racial reconciliation as an 18 year old theology student?

Why didn't John Steinbeck write The Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden when he was a college freshman?

Geez. You'd think these guys had some learning to do or something.

He was so fun to watch at UK

He looked kind of big and slow handling the ball but he always seemed to get to the rim and score

Lumbering and sometimes awkward looking even - made me think of Magic Johnson sometimes - crazy huh?

LOVE the fact he's doing so well in the NBA
He’s not slow though, he’s analytical and uses change of speed to get anywhere he wants. Nobody can stop him getting to his spot because of his size, touch, and skill.

Why didn’t Santa Claus deliver presents to children around the world before he had a beard?

So the OP doesn't understand why SGA didn't play like a 7 year nba veteran at UK?

We have some weird fans.
People have lost the capacity to process that anything changes and especially that players improve over the years.

Jordan in 1990 was not the same guy that played at Cheats either.

The NBA all-star team is practically a Kentucky alum squad and that’s the biggest issue with Cal. He should have won more with the unprecedented talent he had to work with.

It's a reasonable question. As someone said, SGA was no burger boy, four star, I remember the first time I heard of him was when he did good at the Louisville high school all star game, just before he came here, but that was a second tier all star game. He became the surprise player that year but it took 2/3's of season for him to start, he was not a great shooter. He was a good scorer. The fact that he's elevated his shooting stats once he got paid makes me take my hat off to him even more. He's an example that you can improve your shooting through hard work after you get to the NBA. Like a lot of our UK stars, he didn't play great in his final march madness game.

There’s actually a strong argument that once he was inserted into the starting lineup he was better than Wall and Ulis.

Failure by his coach to recognize his skill set and exploit those abilities! Quade Green couldn't possibly have outplayed him in practice.

I see both sides. He was all-SEC so you can’t say he wasn’t awesome but I NEVER expected him to put up 30 a game in the NBA.

He was good for us but I never once would’ve dreamed he would be better at the next level than guys like AD or KAT, let alone the literal best player in the world.
