we have had threads about who our all time favorite Duke player is in the past. Is there anyone here that would list Shane as their all time favorite? I’ll explain why I am asking later. This is NOT anti Shane AT ALL. I’m a huge fan. This is going to be a positive

There's gonna be a lot of fans who pick Shane and rightfully so. It'seems your favorite right which means not necessarily the best. It'hard to pick our best player ever to be honest. It should'nt be as hard to pick a favorite but even for me it's hard because I've been a fan for so long and seen so many guys come through. Jim Spanarkel, Gene Banks, Mike Gminski , Johnny Dawkins, Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley and my man crush Marshall Plumlee all could qualify but my favorite player and best in my opinion is Grant Hill. My favorite to watch play at Duke has always been a tie between Laettner and Jason Williams. When I say has been, I mean because my favorite I have ever watched play at Duke now, was here just last year and had a really unfortunate shoe incident. I know we have who is your favorite or who was the best threads, but have we ever done a “who was the FIRST Duke player you were a fan of?” For me, that one would be Danny Ferry. He was a senior the year I started watching Duke basketball.

Battier was the epitome of a Duke player. Smart, defensive minded, tough, and a winner. He was the face of Duke basketball. If we had a Battier on every team we would have 15 or more championships by now.

FWIW, my all-time favorites are Scheyer, Winslow and Singler, for many of the same reasons we love Battier.

Glad to see you say Winslow..... I’m not sure I wouldn’t say he was my favorite from that team even though I would expect most to say Jah or Tyus

Battier was incredible and truly worthy of anyone's favorite player. That said, my favorite player and the best player ever at Duke in my opinion is Christian Laettner. I loved everything about him. He was hard nosed, skilled, smart, ruthless, arrogant as hell, and the best damn clutch player ever. I guess he's my man crush.

I think he’s the best leader Coach K has ever had. He made K’s job easier during his 4 years

I’ll wait until this evening so that people who are at work and can’t respond will have a chance, and then I will explain what this is about

It is not hyperbole to say that Shane's senior year rivals any single year by any player in the history of college basketball. There isn't a team award (preseason tournament, ACC Championship, NCAA Championship) or an individual award (All-Conference, All-American, NPOY, NDPOY) that he did not win. It is hard to understand just how rare and remarkable that is.

I’m sure Shane is a lot of people’s all time favorite if not top 3.

Personally Seth Curry and Kyle are my favorite.

Ok, here is what I started this thread about. I’m sure most of you know about Jason Rubichau. He’s the artist that does a lot of sports paintings. I have 7 of his that are Duke paintings. I gave one to someone here last year of JJ Reddick to put in a sports bar. Anyway, I have one of Battier that I don’t plan on framing. I was going to offer it to someone here on the board, so I wanted to see who all were the biggest Battier fans.
@TheDude1 is the only who said he is his first favorite, so it’s his if he wants it.
@Canadian Dukie said he was his #2 favorite, so he is second in line.
I loved what @HuffyJB wrote, so he is third.
If none of those want it, we’ll figure out if anyone does.
It’s free and I will pay for shipping.

He is definitely my favorite too. Not just saying this for the picture (I do have 4 of his pics already framed in my basement, JJ, the 2015 national champs, the 2010 champs, and one others with K and some of the best ever guys). But yeah Battier is definitely my favorite of all time. I grew up in the early 90s so Laettner and G Hill were my first idols, but I really started loving b-ball in high school and that was about the time Battier showed up. I even picked 31 for my high school number. Also named my first dog Battier. Loved the reaction that got from UNC fans, didn’t hurt that he was a mean dog to many strangers. But I don’t need the picture, my kids are taking over the basement anyways, just thought I would chime in.

Picture of Battier the dog. He’s the lab-mix in the foreground.

That’s the 903 and Kounting. I have that one, Laettners shot, Zion, and the 2001, 2010, and 2015 champions. I’m hoping he does the 91,92 and 2019 champions!!

Same here @DukefanKY. Ferry dunking on a breakaway during his senior season is literally my first basketball memory, ever.
