Hell yeah!! I said it a while ago, anyone who claims to have any knowledge of coaches coming or going on Beamer's staff is full of it. This dude operates like a ninja. Nobody sees it coming. That's why I'm not 100% convinced a change won't be made on the defensive side of the ball. I just think he's waiting on his target to confirm interest. As Gomer would say, ''Surprise, surprise''
Agreed. Most wanted him gone, now he is our savior. I always liked Elliot and was sad to see him go. Glad he is back but we need defensive help more than we need right end help.Everyone was complaining about the OL while he was here and now everybody is excited he is coming back? I know its TE this time but still.
If so, he's waiting mighty late. Spring practice is looming.Hell yeah!! I said it a while ago, anyone who claims to have any knowledge of coaches coming or going on Beamer's staff is full of it. Never heard of it, but I don't get around much.Is it common to have a TE coach/run game coordinator combo?
I'm fine with Beamer's approach. The ultimate goal is to get the best staff you can. If that means you have to wait a bit, so be it.If so, he's waiting mighty late. Spring practice is looming.
Not long-term, for the same reasons he is doing this now. This represents a change in professional objectives. Will he be our next HC?
Dude is all Gamecock. Most every guy on this board has said "give me $1M/yr to coach at USC and I'll do it for the rest of my life". SE just said, "hold my beer". Bro is living out all of our dreams. The fact he never really left Columbia says a lot about how much he wants to be here. His family stayed in Columbia and he split time between GSU and Columbia.
I'm not ruling out another future change in objectives. Not long-term, for the same reasons he is doing this now. This represents a change in professional objectives.
I don't think so. But it's also more uncommon now a days to have a dedicated TE coach AND dedicated ST coach. My take on this is our running game needs help. SE rose to the ranks of HC of an FBS team based on his OL/running game experience. TE coach is probably lowest on the totem pole. This more about having another qualified voice in the room than it is about have a TE coach. Is it common to have a TE coach/run game coordinator combo?
I don't care one way or another, but there are some practical considerations. I think Beamer has already addressed this situation. If he was obfuscating, it needs to be for a great opportunity that way exceeds the one we are discussing today.I'm fine with Beamer's approach. The ultimate goal is to get the best staff you can. I am categorically foreclosing the possibility of upward ambition. Some things would have to get fixed in order to induce him, plus he's getting a little old.I'm not ruling out another future change in objectives.
Hopefully, that is not something we have to worry about for a long long time from now. Will he be our next HC?
I think the "coordinator" title is more for getting him a higher pay scale than he would have just as a TE coach. Probably to give him a bump just above what he was getting paid at GSU.Is it common to have a TE coach/run game coordinator combo?
To be fair, it's a favorite past time at USC to hate on the OL coach. Truth be told, he coached the best OLs we've had here in the last 20 years. We watched his OLs dominate Bama, UGA, Clem, etc...Our offenses with Shaw were just as much a product of his coaching as HBC's, as he was the RGC then and that's where we ate. We were never a flashy passing team.Agreed. Most wanted him gone, now he is our savior. I always liked Elliot and was sad to see him go. Glad he is back but we need defensive help more than we need right end help.
Tony Morrell was asked about any additional changes on the radio a couple of days ago. He said he would rule out one more change, but that's dependent on whether he can get a home run hire for the replacement. Gotta think that's related to White.I don't care one way or another, but there are some practical considerations. I think Beamer has already addressed this situation. If he was obfuscating, it needs to be for a great opportunity that way exceeds the one we are discussing today.
I would like to see an accomplished professional AD replace Tanner. It would not shock me one bit if this is a move for Elliott to transition into replacing Tanner as AD (who is reportedly in his last contract as AD). When Tanner retires, we need a "football" man to replace him. "Crazy", you say? We don't know what we don't know.
100% agree with you, especially a football man. I don't know what Elliott's educational training is. But, I'm with you, my friend, in wanting an "accomplished professional AD" to replace Tanner.I would like to see an accomplished professional AD replace Tanner.
That's a really tough job, and a tough sell to kids. He's done well enough for GSU. But not well enough to get sniffs form P5 programs for a HC gig. So, he's either thinking "screw it, I'm going home to make $1M+/yr at the place I love with 25% of the responsibilities", or "I need a reset". With our RB room, mobility of our QBs, and increased talent on OL it's a great opportunity for a RGC.Wow! He had done pretty well at Georgia State. I guess he wasn’t a fan of the current landscape of CFB at a program that size? I’d imagine any solid player they’d have would get poached every season.
Great hire.
What? Me worry?Hopefully, that is not something we have to worry about for a long long time from now.
Doubtful, but…… OL coach-in-waiting??Will he be our next HC?
Agree, good news for us, HOWEVER this is a ominous sign of which I fear we are seeing just the beginning. Several HC's have left to take assistant jobs elsewhere. There may be less and less individuals willing to take HC's jobs at any level (see Chip Kelly) due to the turbulent landscape that is unfolding at breakneck speed with no clear cut solutions.I think it's auspicious. It's also additional evidence that college football's current issues are inclining head coaches to seek more comfortable, less arduous situations. There's no downside to this from our perspective, however.
I think Shawn makes the fourth or either fifth head coach to make such a move this cycle.Agree, good news for us, HOWEVER this is a ominous sign of which I fear we are seeing just the beginning.
