This may not be such good news if Herman succeeds in upgrading.

Sam said he was ok with 7-5....so clearly the bar is set for 2 feet and not 6. He will feel the heat even after the OC and DC hires. Gone are the snug references of we’re back. Now replaced with where are we going? When your leader is such a doofus, it is off the road and into the ravine.

I think the firings were a requirement to keep his job this year.
Also think, less than 10 wins next year means it is his last.
Even at 10 wins, he may not survive - but anything less than 10 is an almost guarantee.
With what OU has in place, I'm good if they find a decent replacement.
OU is among the very best in college football.
Texas finding a decent replacement means an opportunity for some classic match ups in October.

Since Mack got depressed the year after Colt got hurt in the NC game against Alabama, the Horns have been in a somehow decline. I think part of it is paying for their exposure on LHN. The one thing they have done well, is play us tough a lot, and beat us more than they should have.

But they have had close to annual upgrades in the about-to-end decade. And somehow, they have exactly seven average wins per year, and at least four losses every year. One double digit win year, with the ballyhoo of beating a disinterested Georgia Bulldog team in last season's Sugar Bowl. That was followed by a pretty mediocre 7-5 finish, 5-4 in the conference with a four way tie with Ok State, KState and Iowa State.

Maybe they could get SMU in a bowl game, and claim a state championship. For a decade, despite the upgrades, they are a lot better in football at claiming than gettin' it done. It's pretty delicious, actually.
