Should John Wall's jersey hang in Rupp Arena Rafters

The Unforgettables were put in the rafters not because of any records they set or championships they won. They are up there for having faith in the Kentucky jersey during a time of turmoil and setting the program up for a decade+ of success.

John Wall deserves the same.

I agree, his importance to the program at that time makes him deserving of the honor.

I can see both sides of the argument. He only played one year at UK and didn't get them to the Final Four. He wasn't the first "big name" to commit out of that recruiting class either, Cousins was if I remember correctly so Wall got to see the other stud freshmen he'd be pairing up with. On the other hand it was Cal's first year, with all of Cal's baggage and allegations swirling still, UK coming off the Billy G years and what appeared like was going to be a depleted roster. He certainly could have stayed home and went to UNC or Duke. To me he is right there on the line, just needs a little push to be fully deserving in my book though I wouldn't hate it if they were to hang his jersey in the rafters. Maybe plugging UK in his new analyst gig, staying close to the program and helping with recruiting, or the pipe dream of ending up on staff somewhere down the road warrants that little push to auto hang the jersey.

For what? Seriously. Look at the jerseys that hang in the rafters and then compare their contribution to Wall's. There are way to many players ahead of him right now including Bogans, Prince, Hayes, Rondo and many others.

Imo, most of Cal's players shouldn't have jerseys hanging in the rafters. The one exception is for sure Davis. The rest are as subjective as Wall. Patterson, Oscar, and Ulis maybe.

All that said, they will for sure retire Wall's jersey. He still reps UK and is true blue.

No. He played one year here. His team underachieved. Didn‘t even make the Final Four, with overwhelming talent.

At least 50 players, should have their jersey in the rafters before John.

It’s actually embarrassing that someone would believe that he deserves to have his jersey in the rafters.

Yes one of the only NPOY that we have ever had and one of the first number one overall selections doesn’t deserve it.. I bet you think Tayshaun deserves it and he never made an elite 8.

Wall would go on to win SEC Player of the Year for his outstanding season, becoming only the second freshman to ever win the conference's POY award. His cabinet also includes SEC Freshman of the Year, SEC Tournament MVP, All-NCAA Regional, Consensus First Team All-American, and National Player of the Year.Im curious to what 50 players deserve to go before John. His list of accomplishments speaks for itself.Anthony Davis would be another one year player I would support hanging his Jersey in the rafters.

I say just for basketball, then no. There are a dozen guys I’d put in front of him. However, if you’re including cultural impact and what he meant to the program then there is a very valid argument he belongs there.

YES !! He made UK relevant again. Made them the cool school to attend. Without Wall, it would have taken years to come back from BCG. Not to mention he produced and was a STAR. Wall did more for UK in one year, than several players who played 3/4 years.

The NBA thought that Wall and Davis had college careers that deserved to be number one picks. I say yes even though they were here just one year. Wall got UK back in the limelight. Who know if Davis or anyone else would have come to UK if Wall didn't make us a cool school again.

I love John. A UK legend for sure. However, it’s just my opinion that any player that just played one year here, AND didn’t even get to a Final Four, is not worthy of a Rafters spot.
Just my opinion. I know my opinion, and $4 dollars, will get me a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
Everyone has their own views on this.

Anthony won National player of the year. Defensive player of the year, Final Four Most Outstanding Player, and, more importantly, our 8th National Championship. God, it seems like we should have more than 8.

Kind of hard to justify an argument for John, versus Anthony.

I can think of a handful of golden opportunities in my lifetime that we let slip away.

His impact went far beyond the court. He deserves the honor. It really is a shame that team went further because along with Calipari they brought the program back to prominence quicker that anyone could have realized when BCG was fired.

You’re a solid poster Foxy. However, John, wasn’t National Player of the year. And, no, I don’t think Prince deserves his jersey in the rafters. In fact, I’ve never even considered him to be a candidate for this honor.

And, I don’t give a crap about where they were drafted. That’s irrelevant to their career accomplishments at Kentucky.

You‘re better than this F2M.

Wayne Turner and Jeff Sheppard should be in the rafters. I don’t think either were drafted.

Again, totally irrelevant to what they accomplished at Kentucky. I love John Wall. one of my favorites.

However, again, you have to win something here. Kentucky basketball doesn’t give out participation trophies.
