Should UK football embrace being Lovable Losers?

Similar to the Chicago Cubs.

So when things happen like that ridiculous trick play Vandy pulled off, or mind blowing comebacks like Louisville and Southern Miss, we can all just laugh and say "Hahaha, that is so Kentucky football, don't you just love them to death, they are adorable".

Have the coaches brought to the game in a clown car. Get Stoops to wear one of those flowers that squirts water, so he can blast the opposing coach during the pregame handshake.

Instead of keeping up this futile effort to be good at football, I think UK would be much better served being the comic relief of the SEC. Would give us a unique identity.

Time for a different approach.

You're right. Seasons far from over but if something isn't done with the defense it's going to be a bad year.

That's exactly what I asked some folks on Monday, and I even compared them to the Cubs. I figured after enough heartbreaks fans would get to the point where they embrace the losing, and it just becomes trendy to sell out Commonwealth and witness the train wrecks.

the Cubs showed the way. go legit, not on the cheap. commit ALL the resources required and give it a little time.

UK still has the Tribune owner, over his head GM, biding time coaches and a lot of undeveloped talent.

Kentucky should dissolve Defense and Special Teams in order to save money. Just play Offense, go for it on every forth down, go for 2 points, and on Kickoffs just kick the ball out of bounds don't even need a kicker. Use the Offense players in a base 4-3 if need be.

Just stop. Admit the program is headed in the wrong direction and it will be ok.

Were they headed in the wrong direction in the first half? Which team is going to show up this week? Weren't some beautiful passes thrown the first half, and caught, wasn't there some awesome interceptions, didn't Boom show his trademark burst of speed a couple of time?

I don't understand how all the great plays are completely forgotten because we lost the game, if winning were everything then Transfer U would be justified,

Someone loses every game, but I think UK is going to win a few AND furnish some highlight plays,

I think UK will win MORE than their share next year.

I appreciate the never ending optimism brother.

And you are correct, 1st half was very good.

Lots of football left to play.

That said, is there any scenario this year that you could see replacing CMS next year?

Ok. Well it might be headed in the wrong direction but it definitely doesn't seem to have changed. Just think jauk, if stoops hadn't of been so stubborn and boneheaded we would of gone to back to back bowl games and not even having this discussion

I like the "this is next year approach" Gets me excited every summer and then again that winter because that will be next year. It's a circle

I think that's the theme for Kentucky football. "We're going to be so much better next season" lol We're just getting started bro!!! Lol

There's a difference between losing and embarrassing yourself. No shame in hitting hard, being competitive but falling short.
Acting like you don't have a concept of the game basics is a different matter.

I adopted this attitude about 30 years ago. Trust me, it's a lot less stressful....

As a St. Louis Cardinal and UK wildcat diehard, I resent this even being a question. As soon as the Cubs were brought into this I need to vomit.

Of course, the main difference in the Cubs and our football program is at least the Cubs are spending money and trying. Still , they suck and no, I want no part of that tradition.

You have to know who you are and generally what your ceiling is , there's a group that expects more than what UK fb will likely ever deliver . There is a extremely small scenario where UK has any sustained success and that's if some homegrown former player becomes an excellent coach that would not leave the program because he loves the state .

No, just like he pumped joker until the end. He's a pumper, always was and always will be. I don't admire him actually. His thought process is part of a huge problem. Look at his response, "how could you forget the good plays just because we lost". Is this a satire account?

Year 4. Lost at home opening night to a crap mid major program. Louaiville leaving us in the dust. Looked like complete disasters in most aspects of the game. Play calling and in game coaching by stoops looks worse than high school coaches I know.

All good though people, just remember some good plays!! YAY!!!!!

He's either slow, a brilliant troll, or maybe a mix of both.

I don't agree. We've got top notch facilities, a huge fanbase that puts 60,000 people in the stands, and are a member of the best conference and most televised in history. I think you're using too much past in your thinking and not realizing we are not the same program today. Things have changed Wildly. Respectfully, I think a good coach could lay a nice foundation and stay. He'd be putting his own stamp on an sec program, and there's not many of them. He'd have the facilities and lots of recourses today to make it a home.

Honest question X, have you ever been to fayetville Arkansas or Vandy's facilities / stadium? I've spent time at both, and I can tell you, if Arkansas can do it, we can. If Vandy can pull off some really good success, we can. Our current AD is the problem. He's not telling the truth of just how many recourses he has to make this happen. He's hoping we simply don't care.

Arkansas and Vandy both have much superior recruiting pools , that more than makes up for any facility disparity . Vandy has had moments but by and large is the same amount of pitiful that UK has been . I mean there is a scenario where a coach stays here but it's so microscopically small that fans shouldn't logically entertain the thought .

The biggest hurdle UK has always had to overcome is a lack of home state talent . If you have that then a school can count on that as a base to build on but when you have one of the worst talent bases in the country it is almost impossible to import that many quality players . A lot of people are posting what they want to happen , not what's probably going to happen .

I want UK fb to go undefeated and be successful but I see the natural barriers the program has . There is not another situation like UK's , so many negatives to list and but a few positives . We have closed some gaps and hopefully stop being a doormat but the ideas of hiring some big time coach because of what we have is not something I'm going to buy .

Hearing a rumor that we are set to sign a major recruit from Louisiana named Bobby Booshay. Heard he's a game changer when you make him mad.

Actually several UK AD's have already taken this stance. I think Larry Ivy had "lovable losers" over a football tattooed on his chest right over his wallet pocket.

Posts like this make you wonder.

The season isn't over yet.

I'm sure that's what a lot of new prisoners in a maximum security facility say after their first "wife" encounter in prison. 25 years later...

The only ones who think this season is going to get better are ones who still haven't given up the mantra of "THIS is the time it won't hurt when I punch myself in the balls!. I just know it!"

We lose with dignity. And MB has the rifle team rated very high. He could start wearing a big red clown nose while he sips on his Shirley Temple during the games, grinning uncontrollably. DJ Eliot, Stoops and Jimmy the bear Brumbaugh could bounce around on pogo sticks at midfield for halftime entertainment. It's not like they're making adjustments anyways.
