..and i absolutely love it. This is exactly what I wanted to see. Per "KY Insider" on facebook:

Mark Pope says the staff is doing on in-depth study on the officiating of Kentucky’s first two SEC games

Adds that they have been in correspondence with the SEC about last night’s game to “learn about the whistle.”

“We’re interested in the rules that are being called… The whistle is not going to win or lose us games, but we can use it to our advantage
.”

---------

Not only does this show that the program sees the officiaiting problem, and that they are looking to address it (and possibly change their game play to mirror what's allowed and what isnt).. but it also sends a clear shot to the SEC, in that now they are made aware that teams will be doing their own investigations on officiating

Get your **** right, NCAA

And that’s how a savvy coach handles this unique situation. I bet you this pays dividends in the long run in terms of the respect Pope gets from the league and the officials. Direct, firm but respectful.

BTW, if there's any way you can somehow bet the under on Fouls called on UK this weekend, do it. Put the mortgage on it. Kentucky will finish next game with a much more favorable whistle, almost guaranteed.
O/U 22.5 FTA by opposing team 36 Just for a frame of reference in the last 2 games UK was called for 45 fouls and the opponent attempted 73 free throws

Anybody got the video where our guy was almost choked to the floor?

Seems like a flagrant to me.

I applaud Pope for trying to address the issue but how do you apply analytics to UK getting the short end of the stick with officiating for the last 30 years or so just because Kentucky is on the front of the jersey

His staff is heavy into analytics. If any group can use all that data to find a trend it will be them. I just hope they use it to good measure.

If for nothing else, it sends a message.

And I think this can absolutely help. What it does it puts pressure on the NCAA. They are going to have to put a call in, somewhere from some office, that the calls on UK need to ease up. Because if they don't, this is just more ammo for Pope and UK. The NCAA is now kind of backed into a corner.

Do have "video" as well of what's going on...

I truly hopes this helps BUT I will believe it when I see it done. I go all the way back to the end of Rupp years and Kentucky has always got bad calls against them. Guess we will see tomorrow and the rest of the season.

We have to learn how to guard without fouling too. This team is really handsy. In Rupp, we get the benefit, but on the road we won't. This isn't the Mountain West. Pope needs to teach the guys how to defend without getting caught by the refs.

I don’t think so. We aren’t being called for “handsy” fouls. And Georgia was all over us with their hands, arms, and bodies with no call.

Couldn’t disagree more. We don’t get any benefit in Rupp. At least not since Cal.

As for us using our hands, did you watch the UGA game. They literally slapped us on several occasions to get “steals” that were no calls. And the holding on the perimeter to disrupt is so blatant but rarely called.

While I agree with the initiative, I’m afraid this will only result in further recession if Pope’s hairline. You see utilization of analytics to identify trends and patterns that can be applied to improve outcomes and gain advantages relies upon a foundation of of some form of consistency within the data and patterns. Unfortunately, they will find exactly what UK fans routinely have observed over the decades… that there is NO consistency. This is not a foul in one game, it is in the next. This is a not a foul in the first half, it is in the second half. This is not a foul on one end of the floor, it is a foul on the other end.

At best they may be able to determine which refs are most prone to certain tendencies, and MAYBE they can devise some strategies on a game by game basis depending upon who is blowing the whistle.

Yes! We know certain tendencies from the likes of Luckie, Lindsey, Shows, Ayers, Adams, Kimble, Dorsey, Daily, Sirmons, etc (more info on each ref by clicking their name:>). Here’s a post I made on a similar thread regarding Luckie’s “The Craft of Officiating” where refs are instructed to mirror calls, be the difference for “the little guy” not getting blown out, hitting prominent coaches with Ts, saying only the final 2-4 minutes of a game matter/are remembered, etc.

Thus why they called as many fouls and we shot as many free throws the last 3 minutes of the UGA game than we had the prior 37 minutes.
