You could have won a lot of money if 5 years ago, you bet someone that SGA and Tyrese Maxey would be the 2 leading scorers in the NBA for former UK players. It's amazing how good of players both of those guys have become, especially SGA.

SGA especially. Special player when it came to distribution but never thought he’d be the scoring threat he has become.

Always felt like Maxey was a lock. He hasn’t surprised me at all. Kid was born to be a superstar.

Who would have ever thought when SGA was recruited he would go on to be the best NBA player from the UK Calipari era?

You can argue maybe Anthony Davis at his peak was better, but his health really derailed his trajectory after the 2017-18 season when he finished third in MVP voting.

But right now SGA is at worst the #2 pick for MVP behind Jokic, because Jokic's stats are more obscene than ever this year. Jokic voting fatigue might benefit SGA, but I don't sense much of any of that at the moment.

I don't watch the NBA much until the playoffs, but I play Fantasy NBA basketball. UK players dominate fantasy. Here are the current 9-category overall fantasy rankings for UK players:

2-SGA
4-AD
5-KAT (3 of the top 5)
12-Maxey
16-Booker
23-Fox (6 of 23)
32-Herro
35-Murray
65-Monk
69-Bam
99-PJ
104-Cason Wallace
119-Randle
136-Quickley

Not many past that are on a fantasy roster. So roughly 10% of the players used on fantasy rosters went to UK. That is amazing, considering how many are foreign players now, and didn't go to a US college.

I think he’s the most consistent star in the league right now.

He might get MVP because the Thunder are the best team in the league and they’ve been doing it without Chet Holmgren, who has been out since November.

They’re tied with the Cavs for best record and have split with them. But they pushed the Cavs to the wire in Cleveland and then a weak later beat them by 20 in OKC after taking a 40 point lead into the 4th and pulling their starters. SGA had 40 in that one as well and would have easily got 50 if he didn’t sit the entire 4th. He just picked them apart posession after posession.

He is such a unique player. It doesn’t matter who you put on him, he’s going to consistently get to his spots.

Cason Wallace has started a ton of games with him in the back court as well but he’s mostly a 3 and D guy at this point.

I think we need an NBA team with only UK players.

54 points?

Hmmm...there was some other dude that scored 54 once, and it was a BIG deal as I recall.

He’s on track to be the greatest UK pro ever …yes, even better than AD.

UK has never produced an MVP. It’s a missing piece on our resume. But I’d bet on SGA becoming the first.

Using the fantasy rankings, this is the depth chart (basically playing guards at the SF):

PG-SGA/Maxey
SG-Fox/Quickley/Murray
SF-Booker/Herro/Monk
PF-KAT/Randle
C-AD/Bam

You could win an NBA Championship and a Gold Medal with that lineup.

SGA is a better point guard than Fox. Which is why the Kings moved him more off the ball and Monk and Sabonis facilitate more of the offense.

WE NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN! which billionaires do we have? grizzlies i think are the least valuable NBA team. We would need the riches to buy it for about 1.7B (small premium on its current value).

if we could even slap a small uk logo on each memphis jersey, the revenue from merch that poors like us buy alone would make up for payroll.

Know a lot of us don't follow a lot of the NBA (myself included) but I love to hear when our Cats do well in the league. SGA is just a beast.
6 of the top 13 current scorers are former UK players
Here's some of John Calipari's former UK players & their NBA single game scoring highs.

Booker - 70
Towns - 62
Fox - 60
Davis - 59
Randle - 57
Cousins - 56
SGA - 54
Wall - 52
Maxey - 52
Murray - 50
Monk - 45
Washington - 43
Bledsoe - 41
Herro - 41
Bam - 41
Quickley - 40

Hard to imagine how any coach could have had this much talent over a 15 year span & won only 1 national championship.

Meh, I’m among those who generally don’t attach much significance to those who were one-and-doners at UK. Sure, they played 33 career games wearing a UK jersey. But c’mon, they only played 33 career games wearing a UK jersey.

Yeah that AD guy. Screw him. John Wall too.
