2010 & 2015 - Championship
2012 [Lehigh] & 2014 [Mercer] - Historic upset
The rest were "blowouts" resulting from massive runs by our opponents in the 2nd Half
2009 vs #3 Villanova [Sweet 16] - "Duke trailed 26-23 and hit the first basket of the second half, but Villanova scored 12 of the next 13."
2011 vs #5 Arizona [Sweet 16] - "Arizona used a 28-9 run early in the second half"
2013 vs #1 Louisville [Elite 8] - "Cardinals used a 20-4 run in the initial part of the second half"
2016 vs #1 Oregon [Sweet 16] - "Ducks took a double-digit lead early in the second half"
This has surprised me over the past nearly decade of Duke in the NCAA Tourney. Coincidence? Teams that overachieved by keeping it close until Halftime? Or simply basketball is a game of runs and our opponent had more of them/larger one?
Maybe we can take pride in not having lost a close game to a high seeded opponent in quite some time.
