CBS Halftime show says, “ Slater is rapidly becoming the best left tackle in the league”.
Not bad.

He's going to make a ton of dough if he stays healthy.......

A ton MORE dough. He’s got a $16.7MM fully guaranteed deal with a fifth year option, which you’d have to believe will be taken absent catastrophic injury and is subject to calculation but would’ve gotten him an additional ~$12MM based on this year’s values. Basically has ~$28MM in his pocket already, which is nothing to feel bad about.

Of course getting to the second contract is always the goal in the NFL and he would probably get well north of $100MM if he is indeed one of the better LTs in the league.

Long story short: it is very good to be Rashawn Slater.

As much as it would have been great to have Slater on the team last year, he clearly made the right move by opting out and concentrating on his NFL future.

How do we account for Slater’s excellence at both the collegiate and professional level in view of the low reputation our O line coaches have on this board?

His three years at NU don’t seem to have hurt him at all.

He’s tremendously skilled physically and came in pretty ready to go from day one. Helps when your dad is a longtime NBA power forward.

He's somewhat of an outlier, given that he was very lightly recruited. I remember watching his tape, and just thinking how well he moved (I think he was around 270 as a HS senior). For some reason, barely any programs seemed to notice.

He spent the "opt out" year working with a tackle guru who raved about his ability, obviously correctly

I just love that LAC is becoming a bit of a Wildcat hotbed with JJ, Joe Gaziano, and RSlater. Add Ben Skrowonek and EWIV on the Rams and its Evanston West. Imagine 2021 with all of them in their collegiate primes. Happy for every one of them though.
