Sleeper Media video from July was worrying.....has it got better?

I was just watching a video from them talking about a couple of insider reports they had looked at and the way they were talking was not giving me warm fuzzies. Basically that we had no shooters other than Noah, and Lowe was underwhelming. They were also saying Garrison wasn't showing the jump we were hoping for. At first I thought this was a video from the present and was starting to get worried, but then I saw it from July. Has news been any better? I also realize is only so much you can tell from summer play/practices.

No shooters other than Noah? There are four other guys on the roster who shot 41%, 35%, 35%, and 46% respectively from 3 last season. And that’s not counting Lowe who led the team in 3p% this summer.

Maybe do some research instead of buying whatever drivel some instagram dweeb is selling.

Sleepers media didn't really know what they were talking about. They didn't see the team and just went by KSR insider notes. And those notes were glowing reviews about almost everyone if ya have ksr plus, so they were just creating stuff to cause more clicks.
Thanks for the civil response. Good to hear.

It’s a fine topic to discuss just giving my opinion on their opinions. I think Noah will burn the nets down. Obviously Kam is gonna shoot it well according to his stats and everyone who watches them. Lowe will be much improved. Otega can hit open 3’s, Chandler can hit open 3’s. That’s all we need really is guys who can shoot when open because our offense creates great looks. Heck even Garrison can hit a few here and there. Jasper should be a 36-38% type shooter IMO. Aberdeen is more of a driver but he’s proven he can hit open looks as well and is not someone I worry about clogging up the offense.

In all honesty, I’m more concerned if JQ is actually going to play. He’s the rim protector, and defensive enforcer inside that we’ve seriously lacked for quite a while. Without him, who knows?

Three point shooting is important but I think some people have over prioritized it the last five to ten years, especially at the college level. Again important, but not sure if it’s quite as important as a lot of fans like to act like it is.

Pretty sure their entire viewership is hate watches from this forum. We’re the only ones deep enough into the sauce to know who they even are. They are full grown adults who discuss basketball similar to the level of 14 year olds who exclusively consume the sport via social media clips.

I urge everyone to stop clicking Sleepers Media videos. They're either trolling or complete fools. The two black guys are especially clueless. The one white guy seems like a stupid dick. He's willfully ignorant and that bothers me. Then the UNC fan white guy may actually be retarded.

Better to be able to create wide open looks rather than being just a shooter. People don't understand this very well. We are going to be a whole lot better than last year because of it, even if we shoot slightly worse.

Yeah, I think I am going to do that. Just saw one about Stokes. They were saying if UK gets him, Pope's style of kumbaya teamwork and everyone getting along will be tested. And then said nobody else in the class wants to play with Stokes. They definitely seem like guys who are hot take artists.

I think this team will shoot a lot better then just Noah. And sometimes its better to have scorers then shooters, but with this depth, we will get some of both.

Yeah we are very thin, can only dress 4 players and the waterboy. You haven't missed much between July and just punching in with your remarkably worthwhile post today.

To be honest, if Garrison can figure out which hand to use to block shots and learns how to not leave his feet every time the opponent twitches, he'd be a really good shot blocker. Dude is tall, long, and jumps like a rabbit.

I think a lot of it will come down to learning his defensive assignments better this year, and I think he can do that. So, we might not need JQ as the go-to interior shot blocker type of Garrison can build off of his freshman campaign. He was actually a solid shot blocker at OSU in his own right and averaged 1.5 bpg in the Big 12. Not bad, but he definitely regressed at UK in that area for whatever reason.

Don't forget that Mo shot 46% last year. He only had 26 attempts, but I would take that option every time if they leave him open.

I thought that he looked really good in that scrimmage especially on offense.

He flowed to the basket better, definitely.

I want to see him get some lob dunks and develop a post move or two, but I saw some improvement too. I dunno if he's as good as fans want him to be, yet, but he's definitely improved.

He makes some really tough floater like shots. I don’t know if he will ever be a lob catcher, doesn’t seem like our offense really tries that too much. Just dunk when he can and I’ll be good. At least when he decides to go score he makes a move and immediately goes. He doesn’t think and make stupid moves that result in travels and turnovers.

I think a lot of people don’t recognize how good he is switching on the perimeter. That is where his real defensive value lies to me.

I hope our lack of lobs last year was because of the athletic aspect of the game and not coaching. Seems like it was there a few times and players looked for it, but it got cut off or we weren't sure Amari or Garrison could get it. I think we'll see this year.

Great point, IMO.

This. Hopefully, he can shine there this year.
