It's crazy that they'll be an outdoor ashtray 10 feet from them, and they'll still throw their butts on the ground.

Amazed anyone under 30 has picked up this habit. All the money you'd save, for some people more than $450/month, mind boggling.

I know the tobacco industry employs millions.. but Imagine if we eradicated it (still leaving Cigars and such alone, if possible).. Think of what it would save for people, especially the poors.. and the burden it would lift off the health care industry not having to treat tobacco related illnesses.

My Dad gets a pretty nice pension from Phillip Morris and several family members used to depend on the check from the sale of tobacco. They've since had to evolve.

It's not a good habit, but to each their own. The pseudo outrage created in the 90s over cigarettes was damaging to many.

I agree and my grandpa grew it and I worked in it. My dad died of Lung Cancer on Christmas Day 2012, so I hate it.

What I don't understand is why we import tobacco from South America and Turkey. It's bad, but if we are trying to get people to stop, why import it?

If tobacco is outlawed then we will see the rise of crack nicotine on the black market.

I hate when people don't fix their divots on the green, it is poor etiquette, but when I see a cigarette butt on the green I consider that to be golf terrorism. And no, throwing it on the fringe doesn't mean you made an effort.

I grew tobacco in 1975-76. I didn't make enough from it to make a difference. I also smoked for a little over 20yrs. I quit because of the cost. .76 a pack.

I don't believe there is anything I hate more in this world than cigarettes. I grew up in a house with my dad being a GD chain smoker. 4-5 packs of Camel unfiltered cigarettes each and every day..Lung cancer got him when he was just 57 yrs old..I am now 60 so I outlived my dad because he could not put those nasty things down. When he passed away..my sister and I were already out of the house. I told my mom, the first thing I am going to do is get the smell out of the house and get rid of the yellow on the walls from the smoke. .. She lived with my sister for 3 weeks while I pulled the carpet, curtains, etc out of the house. I re-painted each room and refreshed everything. The tobacco industry could collapse in full today and I would clap my hands..

I have a hard time believing your Dad smoked 100 cigarettes a day. That's roughly 1 cigarette every 10 minutes that he was awake. Factor in eating, showering, shopping etc then he literally would have a difficult time pulling this off. He would nearly be on fire.

2 packs I'm with you, 5 no way. Every man has a vice though. Lost my mom when she was 59 so I feel your pain.

Wish I could have a time lapse video of the last 25-30 years of my dad's life to show people who smoke or are wanting to start. He was a 3 pack a day man who went from being able to out fish me wading in rivers and steams to "living" his last 10 years not being able to walk 20 feet without his oxygen tank. He had his first heart attack at the age of 50, and finally died at 69 after his 4th. The surgeon who operated on him the last time said he probably had the heart of a 100 year old man. My dad was a tough SOB who was in the Marine Corp in WWII, surviving combat in the Pacific, including a stop at Iwo Jima, but he was powerless when it came to RJ Reynolds.

You don't really think "government" is going to take the hit do you?
Governments make more money from taxes than Tobacco Companies make off profit...
