yeah, most drivers aren't good on dry roads
Funny how everybody else is a bad driver, but not the person saying it. If there are that many bad drivers on the road, chances are you (and I mean that as a general you, not you specifically) are one of them.

You're not wrong, but I actually do get paid for driving and average 2000 miles a week. My only accident in 60 years of driving (and riding) was two years ago when a turkey flew into my drivers side mirror. So I think I'm a pretty qualified observer.

Most people are bad drivers, some because they don't pay attention, others because they just suck- the results are the same.

I have driven a ton for my job as well, so I agree there are bad drivers out there. But if there were as many as some people think, every road every day would be backed up with accidents. The worst are the ultra-aggressive jackasses who think they’re the only people on the road….they're also usually the people who think they’re the best drivers on the road.

Two things with regard to peoples driving skills now versus a generation or more ago that aren’t just being distracted by your phone. First, this is a need to have everything as quick as possible, and must do everything as fast as possible generation. People put their destination in their GPS and automatically set it to find the fastest route. They don’t ever leave themselves 5 to 10 minutes of leeway to get wherever they are going.

The second item is a combination of not having drivers Ed in high school anymore and nobody having their fathers Take them out to learn to drive in parking lots or in bad weather anymore. All of the drivers Ed stuff is done by companies, most of whom do a very poor job. I know some of those companies are former cops but I can tell you that they’re learning nothing about yielding and how do use exit on ramps to get up to speed of the flow of traffic. Same with driving in the left lane at the speed limit. We all know that you shouldn’t go above the speed limit, but I can’t tell you how many times in this area I’ve seen one of those driving school cars putzing in the passing lane below the speed limit. It just seems like kids aren’t getting enough real practice driving, everything is structured based on whatever their driving schools schedule says. We need more kids out learning to drive tractors or old pick up trucks on a farm somewhere at 14 and 15.

My driver's Ed teacher Mr.S was schooled in the North Vietnamese tactic of spit and shout when teaching. He turned out to be a good teacher.

We had two in my tiny HS. One did the classroom teaching, the other did the driving port. They switched every semester. My driving part teacher loved ice cream so each drive was 45 minutes out to an ice cream shop and then we traded drivers (2 of us each did 45 minutes a day) to get home.

Stay out of the left lane unless you are going with the flow.
This would keep a lot of the faster drivers from switching lanes all of the time.
Sorry, but a whole lot of the faster drivers weave in and out of traffic regardless of how empty the left lane is. You can always spot them on 3-lane highways; you’re in the middle lane and this guy comes up fast on your bumper and passes in the right lane even though the left lane is clear.

But the key to being a good driver is to give everyone what they need to not crash into you. That does mean moving out of the left lane if someone is coming up on you fast. Don’t drive in someone’s blind spot and make it so the other driver is not in your blind spot. In general I avoid driving side-by side with another car, I’m either just behind him on the side or just in front of him. And use speed judiciously. When I’m entering an interstate I floor it whenever I have an opening. And ffs if you’re passing someone pass him already, keep your foot on the gas until you’re clear. Ffs.

That’s an impressive track record, well done.

The turkey thing triggered a bad memory for me (also two years ago) of when a whole gaggle of geese decided to take off and fly across right in front of me at the last second. I took out three of them, and they in turn took out my front grill, my passenger side mirror, and a big piece of trim on that side. That whole door ended up needing to be replaced.

These larger fowl are basically flying IEDs 😣

I agree with and do the same things as you do.
My point about the left lane was meant to be if you won't drive the speed limit than stay out of it.
