So, I was “thinking”. How long before folks laugh at $30 MM team NIL?

I believe I read an article last week that NIL for tOSU was around $40 million on FB players for 2025. 🤫

Here's a post I found today:
HS Kids in Cali are getting over a 100k a season. 2026 is only going up. Trying to gift a free article if the WSJ allows. Hopefully it works. Top private HS money is a head spinner.

Or cry? 😞

There is a major problem here. Student-athletes (😞) still make a lot less than their coaches. Can’t have that.

“College” Football 😞
Meanwhile:

Even the "blue blood" athletic programs are starting to find themselves facing red ink.... not just PSU, but also, just within the Big Ten: Michigan, Ohio State, etc.

And in response? Paying $10 Million per year for a coach - $20 million per year for a staff, as just one example of the insane and unsustainable expenditures, is becoming almost commonplace.

Clearly, the kids on sugar and caffeine rushes continue to sit at the wheel.
Cheered on by the pom-pom waving hordes, and vacuous and disengaged leaders.

Oh, BTW:
Anyone notice that the talk of the "payday loans" has faded into the ether?
Thank God that at least a couple University Boards (not PSU's of course) took on at least a modicum of responsibility to their duties. Thank goodness they prevented (at least for the moment) a bad situation from going completely off the rails - but that still doesn't address the current situation.
So, where will the "leaders" turn to next - to kick the fiscal can down the road?
Gonna' be interesting.

Need that private equity cash money to bail them out. They’ll get it.

Who knows?

That is probably the worst option..... but good options are not plentiful. Short of some level of, you know, actual fiscal responsibility, reason, responsible governance (things that they all too often seem to be allergic to). Who knows where they turn? Back to the magic pixie dust of payday loans? Who knows?

Here's a post I found today:

Nice find. At least comparable in order of magnitude vs. what Kraft said in the secret recording (and if we believe him, ahem).

Since Kraft only mentioned Texas Tech, I'm inferring that Texas Tech was the highest this year and was at $40M. The $30M for Campbell's Penn State deal must at least be an appreciable increase over what Franklin had, again surmising, since it probably was a negotiation point. So PSU is at least keeping up with Texas Tech's 2025. I think they'll adjust the number higher during the next 8 years if needed to keep up with the elite national title contenders in national recruiting.

We aren't even ranked in the top 10

You’d think I’d learn by now that we suck at everything all the time.

😞
Not to be so sour......
At least we're in the middle of the top 50 in NIL subsidies. 🙄

College football's top 50 programs ranked by NIL efforts
Separating the haves and have nots across college football.

"Synonymous with college football's biggest brands, there is a direct correlation between booster generosity and substantial success in recent years. A wealth of resources strengthen college football teams in the game's new era of NIL and record-setting revenue figures within the SEC and Big Ten is a shot in the arm to teams consistently in the playoff conversation.

Which universities have the most generous athletics boosters? According to total cumulative “donations and contributions” findings from 2005 through the end of the 2022 season via USA Today and the Knight Commission, programs who receive the most donor funs tend to have a heightened advantage against others through recruiting success, coaching prestige, facility enhancements and other upgrades."

College football's top 50 programs ranked by NIL efforts

49. Maryland Terrapins: $194 million

25. Penn State Nittany Lions: $386 million
21. Michigan State Spartans: $439 million

11. Ohio State Buckeyes: $536 million

3. Texas Longhorns ($766 million)
2. Texas A&M Aggies ($849 million)
1. Oregon Ducks ($969 million)

Is thinking this is not sustainable and going to blow up on college minor league sports going to make you guilty of not supporting the coach? I want to know where I stand.

@ 4:56 minutes into the video:
Tengwall mentions PSU is providing $30 million for the players and $17 million for the coaches.

Interesting that Matt Campbell, while at Iowa State, was recruiting Grunkemeyer so he is very familiar with Ethan.
Also, I think one of his coordinators has the head coach job at Auburn.
