This simple answer is win games. OU losses kept them out of the playoff, not the conference.

Agree.
Realistically, maybe the best and simplest scenario for OU is to continue to schedule challenging non-conference teams and beat them while winning the Big 12. Scheduling dwarf throwing caliber teams like most Big 12 teams do, aside from Texas, is a bad plan for a program like Oklahoma.
OU needs to just maintain it's brand name that has reaped many rewards for the program even before Stoops became coach. This is (and has been) OU's trump card historically. The pollsters have been very generous to OU with its great legacy.
