New JUCO CB Will Jackson is leaving the team. Apparently he wasnt happy with his spot on the depth chart heading into the week.

How does a decision like this impact scholarships for the upcoming season. Has his already been burned or could it now be given to a walk-on?

Yup.. meanwhile a lot of fan’s favorite scapegoat Lamar Jackson is still running with the 1’s.

Good for him.

The coaches talked about bringing competition to positions and they delivered. Some kids are responding and others are not.

Guess he felt he didn't have to learn or work hard to obtain a starting role. Facts of life hit you hard in the face it interesting how people react to it.

Help me out on footballese. If you are a slow blinker, does that mean you aren’t moving around well?
To clarify, Fisher said he was dealing with a bit of a hip injury, which is the slow blinker reference.

Dunno if it's scapegoating when you echo pretty much every coach he's ever had in saying he hasn't played up to his potential. Nobody is rooting against the kid, sometimes statements of fact sting. We'd all love to see him go out there this year and be picking off passes.

I don’t believe anyone is rooting against him. I’m saying he had become the face of struggling secondary here last year and I’m willing to bet a lot of that was in coaching. Not many people were putting blame on Eric Lee or Avery Anderson. He became the person everyone pointed at when the secondary was, rightfully, questioned.

From Jackson's NU commitment announcement:

Jackson is a former 2-star recruit from St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. Jackson committed to Kentucky in the Class of 2016, but he was dismissed from the team during his redshirt freshman season in 2016 for a “violation of team rules.” He attended Mesa Community College in Arizona for the 2017 season.

The "violation of team rules" has never been disclosed, but clearly there were issues in the past. Maybe, as a juco transfer, he thought the job was already his. Maybe he didn't work hard enough. Maybe he couldn't grasp the concepts. Bottom line is that he just wasn't good enough to crack the two deep.

He has limited time left to still make an impact somewhere so I don't blame him for moving on. He may have been encouraged to do so. A year ago, Jackson probably becomes a significant contributor out of sure necessity. Thank you HCSF for creating an environment where competition for starting spots is a real thing.

I imagine I wasn't the only one who saw his past "accomplishments" and his stat line coming out of JUCO and thought, "Really? And he's coming to Nebraska on a football scholarship? Well, if you say so..."

Once in a while the sun shines on my ***.

"Slow blinker" is another way to say someone is not very bright. He wasn't picking up the playbook mentally.

Guess I didn’t know that.

This is the quote that had me associate it with the hip injury...

Nebraska secondary coach Travis Fisher said Monday that Jackson was struggling to learn the playbook, and had been battling a hip injury this fall as well. "Will Jackson has a slow blinker right now," Fisher said.

He goes on to talk about the mental part of the game that he was struggling with as well, in terms of the playbook. So I associated the slow blinker with the hip injury.

Thanks for clarifying, just never heard the phrase used before.

And now we know why a kid with his size and speed was still available in the summer. They took a flyer on him. The new true freshmen are ahead of him. There really isn't a need for a juco.

Lamar Jackson said some good things about the freshmen a couple weeks ago, but didn't offer a response when asked about Will Jackson. That tells you something right there.
