Gave Maryland a pretty good run yesterday. Had several role players step up including Mark Donnal, who played out of his mind.

To my eye, it seems like Bielien is using more PO-like sets this year (more so than the Burke years). Michigan's offense seemed to give the Terps fits at times, especially with how they used Donnal. As good as a three point shooting team as the Wolverines are (NCAA 10th - 40%), their passing ability actually scares me more. I get the sense that Bielein and Co. may be able to back cut us as well as getting open looks against the shapeshifter/man, in a similar manner to what IU and Michigan State did. Perhaps, tomorrow might be the time to try and pack the middle while bringing back the 2-3 zone? The 'Cats, after all, did have a week to prepare for this one.

On the flip side, Michigan's defense seems suspect at times. They preyed heavily on Maryland's bizarre tendency to get careless with the ball, which helped counteract the weakness in their interior. The Wolverines are athletic, but on the smaller side - something that Maryland took advantage of. If BMac and Demps can avoid turning the ball over, maybe we can try to get Alex going early to open up outside looks later on. Skelly's versatility could prove helpful. Pardon seeing extended minutes might worry me a bit because he may be too much of a defensive liability against a team like this.

Lastly, it doesn't look like Caris LeVert will be able to play on Wednesday, and may be held out for the rest of the year. Tough break for the kid, but beneficial for NU.

I'm looking for a "Pepto-Bismal Upset Special" . Quick turn-around for a team we've traditionally have played well against, as well as 8 days to rest/prepare. That's big late in the season.
Agreed that we should be able to penetrate the lane against these guys but we have to defend the 3. That's been problematic.
77-69 upset win for the Cats gets them going for the rest of the season. I predicted 7 -10 conference wins this season (BTT included) and I'm not backing out. Bring your "A" game Cats.

This is a game for the bigs. They have every opportunity to step up against Michigan, and we need them to do so. Stat of the game: Michigan's leading rebounder is Derrick Walton, their 6-1 point guard.

Olah dominated these guys last year. Here's to hoping he can do that again

We are overdue to finish an upset. Maryland and dOSU games still bother me, should've finished them off. With Scottie seeming to find his stroke and Tre playing better, and Gavin also contributing, I'm hoping we pull out the win against Michigan. Hope Olah is ready.

Cats win by a dozen. Not even close.
From your lips...

I think we are due for a win like this. I thought it would be either of the OSU games, but was wrong in the end. Here's to hoping it's tonight. A win tonight and we can finish the season very, very strong and in great shape going into BTT.

Michigan's defense is poor, on a level with Minnesota, Nebraska and (shudder) PSU. If we can slow down their offense (defend 3s), utilize our height advantage inside, and hit some 3s of our own, we can win this game. They have 6 guys who shoot 3s, and all of them hit at 36% or higher in conference play. Stop that, we stop the Wolvies.

Therein lies the rub. We've been pretty bad all season at stopping the threes. Or is it just bad luck? I dunno. I remember PSU shooting the lights out against us, same with dOSU, and others. And at the same time we couldn't buy a bucket. I want to see a new script tonight.

I think slowing the pace/not allowing them to shoot as many shots is more realistic than defending their 3s. We tend to lose shooters too easily in our matchup zone (inexperience? coaching? I dunno), resulting in open looks consistently at the perimeter. We're also susceptible to guard penetration and kick outs.

I actually thought that we matched up very well with Purdue and would possibly win that game, which is why it was so frustrating to me that we encountered the tightest whistle of the season on that day. If they let the bigs play, we would have taken it.

Tonight we either have to hope for improvement of perimeter defense or a slightly off night from their shooters, or slow it way down and limit possessions. I don't know that we can compete in a shootout yet.

As I said in my post above, I think it's two-fold. We let penetration through pretty easily, leading to kick out threes. We also get lost in the matchup a little easily after some quick swing passes, leading to open threes.

Of course, there was been some luck too. See Valentine, Denzel and Cline, Ryan.
