2025 hopefully. We are a 3-4 year rebuild recruiting wise. Gonna need all those years to make the switch. Don’t think texas will mind holding off either.
I totally disagree with this. It is like saying that you are divorcing your wife but you will go ahead and live with her for the next three to four years? Hogwash. Pull the bandage off and move forward.
How about if we compromise on 2023 or at least until we have a new coaching staff, whichever comes first ?

Have to remember there are 4 teams coming to the Big 12, so if they want those teams now, then OU and texas will be there next year.
I’m good with that, but kinda doubtful all that can fall into place so soon. The SOONER the better as far as I’m concerned. I’m not liking the idea of B12 officiating going forward.
The decision will be all about the $$$. If OU/TX wait one more year, it will save both schools at least $30M and given thats when the other 4 schools join, could save them a total of $80M based on how the buyout negotiations go.
Sorry you guys are losing Riley, but I think ultimately he is leaving because of the SEC move. I think it's a terrible move for you guys and it will be years until you see the playoffs again......if ever. Money has ruined college football, because if it was about football and competing and making the playoffs you'd stay in the Big12. Just like WV we should have never been forced to move to the Big12.....other than money it's not benefited us in the least......we never even saw an uptick in recruiting.
So you think recruiting will get better in the SEC? How much better? OU already pulled in consistent top 10 classes every year, so now they'll be top 5? Is there a big difference between the #5 class and the #10 class in reality? Can we use Texas A&M as a comparison? They've moved up from consistent top 25 classes to consistent top 10 classes by moving to the SEC, and yet they are still nothing more than an 8 to 9 win also-ran (just like when they were in the Big12).
Players play like they practice. OU will see a huge uptick in the physicality of the practice. This will carry over to the field. OU will be just fine.
Officially, both Texas and Oklahoma are in the Big-12 through end of day on June 30, 2025. But, everyone believes that is not the target date. According to those with any information on the subject, June 30, 2023 looks like the last day. The price tag to exit is still pretty steep, about 160 million each because there are two exit fees, leaving the conference has a value of two years conference payout and of course the grant of media rights for 24 and 25 have to be bought back from the Big-12 and those are probably another 80 million give or take. In the end it isnit going to be cheap, even if some shaving is done.
The Big-12 does not have to bargain down as there is no pressure on them. They could let Texas an Oklahoma stay until June 30 2025 and then they would only owe the two year's value in contract fees, which would be about 80 million each give or take. But, then Texas and Oklahoma are in a 14 team league for 24 and 25 because the new kids are coming July 1 2023.
I'm no lawyer, but I think there is probably something the attorneys for OU and TX are going to bring out when the new B12 members start arriving that will give them an early departure "out". It has been awfully quiet lately, seemed to start right after the B12 announced the new members. Time will tell, but I think they get our as early as 2023 and the buyout will be greatly reduced or canceled altogether.
I do believe that recruiting will be better in the SEC. I also think they will be coached up a lot better than this year!

This went right to legal as soon as it was announced and from what I am told, they have been from one end of the spectrum to the other. The Big-12 does not have to give them an out of any sort and that is a big concern. The cost to exit is not small and while Texas can pay, it is my understanding Oklahoma has a serious cash flow problem. I seriously doubt there is any reduction from full payment. The BIg-12 holds the cards here and can hold both teams indefinitely. There is a 2 year media payout price just to exit the Big-12 and that has nothing to do with the Grant of Media Rights which is another bag of cash.
But, neither Texas or Oklahoma want to be in the Big-12 any more than the Big-12 wants either Texas or Oklahoma to remain. All it comes down to, is writing a check. Texas has stupid amounts of money so it is my estimation, everything is quiet because Oklahoma is trying to figure out how to pay the bill.
