A) Special teams coverage was often good as I recall. The field position battle in the first half kept the Cats in the game.
B) People might complain about the program not getting respect, but Michigan definitely respected the Cats. That was not a sleepwalk game. The Wolverines came in fired up. Their sideline looked energetic, on the broadcast. For a while, they were in a fight.
C) The Sky Team has attitude. I like it. I’m anxious to see that group reach their potential.

Edit:
D) Perhaps an elite defense could neutralize the Michigan rushing attack, forcing the Wolverines into a passing game they are ill equipped for, exposing them as top ten imposters, as postulated elsewhere on the board. Or perhaps the talented, scampering backup QB will be anointed as ’the one,’ at some later date, as the broadcasters projected, giving Michigan a much more dynamic offense, thus making them legit top ten. Either way, that was a top-ten-looking rushing attack. Teams like that can ‘help’ defenders miss tackles.

Everybody is focusing on our defensive woes, however our offensive two years in still cannot score.

I was also happy to see appearances by some of the young wide receivers. Mosby, Dennis, Hooper-Price, Gill . If these young guys have talent find a way to get em in for at least a play or two.. On the other hand carries for Tyus have been down the last couple weeks.

Hooper-Price was on the field a lot and got his first career reception. He had another opportunity on a ball that Hilinski overthrew.

Time to go deep into the depth chart to find out if other guys on the roster can play. Not one starters job should be safe!

“Appearance” is different from “did anything worthwhile.” Gill had a first down on a screen, nobody else did anything of consequence.

Wisconsin has one of the best rushing defenses in the country this season and Michigan moved the ball well on them.

Nobody on the rest of our schedule is anywhere near as good as Michigan.

I don't take much from this game. Our defense was okay, and our offense just didn't work much.

Still I think we can maybe grab 2 or 3 more wins because there more Rutgers than Michigan's on our schedule.

Need to get the younger Wrs more involved to gain valuable experience even if the season turns out to be a wash. It will pay dividends in the future.

Michigan averaged less than 3 yards per carry against Wisconsin. So, no you didn’t move the ball well against them.

I thought he had one hit him in the hands…was that a different play?
Maybe that's the one I'm thinking about. The pass may have been high. I haven't yet had the time or the willpower to rewatch the game. I just try to keep a closer eye on him during games since we went to the same high school in Houston (a couple of decades apart).

It's not GHP's first catch. He had one a couple weeks back.

The point still stands though. Stephon Robinson is amazing but when he goes down we need to build talent at WR. Gill looks solid. Mosley has legit speed. Minitron is still switching over from playing QB and I hope he can contribute by next year.

Fitz needs to pull a Mel Tucker and go shopping in the transfer portal.

Dennis Springer can’t produce a top WR group if his life depended on it

Hilinski threw it a little high and with some zip, but it was catchable and went through GHP's hands. Would've been a good 3rd down conversion. RCB would've probably caught it, the senior year version. GHP can still develop into a good receiver.

They could score against Rutgers. Michigan’s defensive line proved to be a bit more challenging.

Scoring 21 points is not good. Not in today's game.

And especially not without Hankwitz leading our D.

21 points still is an L against Michigan. And it's not enough against all of the teams we played this year not in the Power 5 and not named Rutgers.

Michigan averaged 5 yards per play against Wisconsin because they threw the ball for 8.4 YPA. The post I replied to was wondering what Michigan's offense would do against a great run defense that forced them to throw and if that would expose them. Wisconsin leads the nation in rushing defense and did slow Michigan down on the ground, so they took to the air and scored 38 points to win going away.

He's in his third year, but I'm encouraged that he's finally seeing the field. You can't coach height. We've been trashed by opponents' tall WR's for as long as I can remember, and have only reciprocated with a single productive season of Kyle Prater.

Of course, we really don't know what will come of all the extra 2020 COVID eligibility. He might have 3 years left after this (Kirtz too?) Perhaps we will get our COVID year benefit deferred, vs others that have 20 super seniors this year.

GHP had a couple nice blocks on WR screens. He is better at that than most of our other WRs, who I saw totally whiff a couple times (and also struggle in prior weeks). But that's not exactly the most thrilling aspect of a WR, so not sure if one would consider that to be "of consequence".

You seem to have erased Ben Skowronek from your memory banks......a 6'3" WR who got NU to the B1G Championship game with that TD catch at ND. If he's an inch shorter that pass goes just off his fingertips.....

I think you might be thinking of the one vs Iowa - that's a good memory for a Monday post a tough loss.

Didnt he produce to NFL recievers in Carr and Skoronik?
Sure, I’ll give him the benefit of Carr’s senior season but Skowronek literally transferred out to save his chances at a pro career. Aside from Carr, what other wr has even sniffed any all conference honors under Springer?

yea I did a sort of informal cut-off at 6'5". If you want 6'3", you can add Christian Jones, who was pretty good for a while then tailed off.

I'm one of those that doesn't hold the ND transfer against Big Ben. He'll always be a 'Cat to me. and, yes, he did use his height to fight for jump balls.

GHP may follow the trajectory of the late bloomers like RCB, who barely sniffed the field until his junior year. I believe GHP is a redshirt sophomore and is showing some flashes of potential. He's going to have to produce this year with all the injuries in the WR room.
