Something Good Coming From A Bad Situation

How many of you have had a bad situation actually turn out for the better because of it? Like a longtime girlfriend breaking up with you, but you end up meeting your soulmate because of it. Maybe losing your job unexpectedly, but you end up finding a better one afterwards. I'm sure everyone has had something like that happen to them.

On to what brought this subject up. We woke up about a week and a half ago to water all over the kitchen floor by the wall that separates the kitchen from the bathroom. We call a plumber and after tearing a couple holes in the wall he finds a leaking pipe. I guess it had been dripping for a while in the wall and finally reached the breaking point. It was a drain pipe and I guess when the washing machine drained into it the pressure was to much for it.

Unfortunately we found some mold in the wall and the drywall, floor, and cabinets in both rooms were damaged. So we call the insurance company and they send out an adjustor to check out the damage and after investigating the rooms and doing a lot of measuring, he says that there is about $10,000 worth of damage. We contacted a company to do the repairs and we are just waiting on everything to get ordered and for the work to start. So now we are just waiting. Well that is our bad situation.

Now the good part to all this is we were wanting to update both rooms in the near future and this will allow that to happen much sooner and with the help of my insurance company. I had to put off the improvements due to multiple back surgeries (one coming up in about a week and a half) and being off work right now due to the back problems. So this is a God send. Hopefully this insurance claim doesn't raise our home owner's insurance to much, but I am thankful that the insurance company has taken real good care of us like you expect them to.

It's good that you can get your insurance company to help pay for a renovation you always wanted to do, but they may decide you are not worth covering in the future.

Reminds me of the time my mom was in a car wreck and was knocked unconscious. When she went to the ER they did a CT scan and found a tumor. Lucky for her it was in the early stages and very treatable.

The exact same thing that happened to the OP happened to me a few years back. Now I have a still-gleaming and expertly remodeled bathroom and kitchen.

The hardest part was drilling the hole in the pipe to cause the leak in a way that looked like it could possibly have happened on its own. But once I figured that out, the rest fell into place like a dream.

One time I was standing around broken hearted. Had to crap, but only farted. Which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. There were no bathrooms around.
Willy, you are crazier than a summer time **** house rat. Keep up the good work :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Wife cheated on me while I was on Drill status so, we divorced and I stayed that way until ten years later. When I married my current wife who is 16 years younger, taller than me by about an inch, makes more money than I do (not counting my military retirement), and is a very beautiful woman. Guys I work with now tell me to beat my head against the wall to wake up from the dream.

Several years ago I decided to take a job cross country. My young wife and I packed everything we owned into a U-Haul trailer and headed west, putting our house on the market. Just outside Denver, I fell asleep at the wheel after driving all night and crashed into another vehicle . No one was seriously hurt, but my car and all my possessions were destroyed. I had canceled my insurance before heading west (dumb) so the cops put me in jail, and the other guy's insurance company sued me. I didn't get out west in time, so the company withdrew the job. I couldn't make my house payments, so the bank took it. My wife got increasingly bitter over how this one mistake was disrupting our lives, and dumped me, taking our young son.

Nothing good ever came of this bad situation, so I guess my answer to the OP is no.

Whoa. Kept reading. Hoping it would get it better. Then the end. No hero reward. Ouch.

Didn't mean to bring you down Willy and Tex. After those rocky days when I was a very young cat, life has been on a generally steep upward trajectory for me. To say all is well is an understatement.

As with Willie's Ezekiel passage about genitalia, my story, while true, is mostly a metaphor. The most likely thing to come from bad is bad, not good. But we still have the freedom and opportunity to forge good in our lives through energy and the discipline to avoid bad decisions.
Many of us get a good stomping by life's giving that just don't seem deserving of by our sense of logic at the time. We become wiser from it and a bit synical sometimes I suppose. Life is like a tire swing..

My wife lost her job last year. She has another job, but 20% pay cut. Definety made me more bitter and synical.

The good part is we don't pay as much taxes.

Maybe in a few years it will all work out. But sometimes you just get **** on for no reason and no real good comes from it.

Dated a girl for 3-4 yrs during undergrad. We always talked about getting married, etc. She cheated on me with one of my better friends and thus ended badly. We probably would've married.....and neither of us were mature enough for that kind of relationship.

I met my wife in grad school later on. The love and relationship I have with my wife is soooo far beyond what I had prior. Thank God.

I was camping once and we were all sitting around the fire. The fire was not burning well because of damp firewood. But there was this tire swing. Useless but swinging. We cut it down and put it on the fire. For some reason girls started showing us boobies! Good from bad I think
