For a team that has struggled to build an identity, everyone brings something to the table:

J. Lowe - Distributor, Dribbler, Vocal Leader

O. Oweh - Slasher, Veteran, Perimeter Defender

K. Williams - Catch and Shoot, Cuts, Versatile Defender

M. Dioubate - Glass Cleaner, Intensity, Enforcer

J. Quaintance- Defensive Anchor, Unlimited Potential, Selfless

J. Johnson - Microwave, Young Gunner

C. Chandler - On-Ball Challenger, Dynamic Potential, Athleticism

T. Noah - Spot Up Shooter, Loyalty, Play Discipline

B. Garrison - Rim Runner, Defensive Switchability, Wildcard

M. Moreno - Immovable Object, Paint Prodigy, Steady Eddie

D. Aberdeen - Championship DNA, Swiss Army Knife, Fearless

A. Jelavic - Warm Body, 5 Fouls

Playing Garrison just seems like a sunk cost fallacy at this point. I would like to see him out of the rotation. Give him some spot minutes and if he doesn't bring it, sit him
You don’t see some value for BG as a help side shot blocker/switch defender as a backup 4? We are playing junkyard ball now and I thought him at the 4 works better there.

If Garrison's mind is right, and in the game, he can help Kentucky. But truthfully speaking, he has not shown up as a junk yard dog, willing to fight, in most of our games. But when he does, he can be good. Moreno has been far more consistent.

I don’t like BG at the 4. Would much rather slide Kam over than play 2 bigs. Even rather see Noah there in spot minutes. Jelavic should be a fit there, just hasn’t brought it.

I don’t mind BG and Moreno fighting for JQ’s backup minutes at the 5 long-term. There are nights BG could be the right choice, but he’s shown you can’t count on him game in and game out. Bench and competition are good motivators for him.

I have to say what I believe and I believe that BG is NEVER the right choice for pt at the 4 or 5 spot here at UK. If we’re being honest, he’s a decent low major type player and that’s being nice.

What strengths do you believe Garrison possesses? What is he good at?

I honestly don’t believe he is above average in any one area.
Sure he is. The reason I asked the question was to see if your critique was based on analysis or just distaste…He is an above average on-ball perimeter defender for his position. He has some serious flaws for sure, so I definitely think he’s third on the center depth chart.

Jelly provides decent post play and good passing.

He needs to play when he plays with intensity. If he doesn’t he’s useless. When he does, he can do some good things.

That's why I like the idea of pairing him with Mo. You have to stay on BG, make an effort to keep him engaged.
Mo ain't afraid to call a guy out for lackluster play, and he seems like he genuinely wants to get the best out of his teammates. He gets it.

He has definitely had some moments, makes you shake your head wondering why can't you play like that all of the time.

I don't think we've seen enough of BG at the 4 to have a strong opinion of him at his natural position yet.

He has intangibles that can't be coached. He has very good size and athleticism. He has a good stroke for a big man and he can run the floor well..I said CAN! Decent ball handler and passer for a big, too. And yes, he's a solid defender but we need to see more of him away from the basket to really see if he can keep up with some of the guys he'll have to guard away from the basket, this year especially.

He's not a 5 though and can not seem to rebound under the basket against other bigs. He had a good looking little jump hook when he first got here but that has disappeared. He needs to work on his touch and his hands a lot. Foot work is decent but needs improvement. The kid was really solid as a 4 at Ok St and I think he can break out here at the 4 when we go big and go hard on the defensive lineup. We can be huge inside with him at the 4 and JQ at the 5. That opens up options at the 3, where we are loaded Mo would be ideal, I think. We can go with the hot shooting hand or go bigger still. Kam would fit the role of the 3 well if he can drain a few shots..but CC/Noah or Jelly can all offer shooting when they're hot at that spot.

I really can't think of another team that can match the size of JQ, BG, Mo, Aberdeen and JJ or Lowe. JJ gotta learn to create for others to get much PT either way, barring injury.

Yes, BG has been a head scratcher but he's been playing out of position pretty much always.

From what I've seen so far, MM backs up JQ and that's it, for now.

This team is built to be a bruiser team. A team that can impose our will on the defensive end against sec teams. I think the offense will come, but that's just not who we are yet. Get used to ugly bball unless somebody gets hot from outside. Really, we recruited decent shooters but nothing to get excited about where that's concerned. But we recruited a team that MIGHT become an elite defensive team, that rebounds the ball. So far...meh, but we're getting healthy and getting where I'm talking about. By March, the offense is hopefully clicking too. That's what we should all be hoping happens and it all just might.

Gosh, will this place implode or evaporate? I'm not sure yet. Lol!

The Duke game last year. He was a MCD AA so he has some ability for sure. Duke had a great front line and he played well that game. Where is that at more often?
Garrison is a weird player, and a lot of people do not notice the good things he does. He’s not a great shot blocker, post scorer or post defender. He’s decent in a couple of those and not so great in the other BUT he does a few things really well that most people don’t notice. I’ve seen multiple coaches rave over some of the things he does. He’s somewhat rendered unnecessary now that we have JQ but he’s a significantly more versatile defender than Moreno. He has good lateral quickness and a pretty confident defender on-ball. He has a lot of decision-making issues and unfortunately for him, many fans have a certain vision of what a center is —- which isn’t him. While he’s a good rim runner, his game has a lot of finesse to it. He has some crafty moves around the basket, short floaters, and half hooks. Problem is, he doesn’t have good post control —- when he tries to back someone down, it seems he has to place a significant amount of effort on maintaining leverage and often misses. He really plays more like a taller Erik Daniels and most fans were expecting Jason Parker lol. I think most of his “effort” issues are confidence/basketball IQ related — certainly he has times were he does check out, but it seems he plays with a slow game processor. Pay mind to how he will make correct reads at time —- just a bit late OR he miscommunicates screen responsibilities and it leads to a layup. There’s still an excellent basketball player in there, albeit flawed.
