Songs that cannot be "covered", movies that cannot be "remade"

We had Dead Skunk on 45 when we were kids.

Take a whiff on me,
that ain't no rose.
Roll up your window
and hold your nose.
You don't have to look
and you don't have to see
'cause you can feel it in
your olfactory.
Catchy.

I am not sure about songs. There are so many that are great and others do them and they are also great. Knocking on Heaven's Door by Dylan and GnR are both very good same could be said for Watchtower (Dylan/Hendrix). Sometimes a cover will surpass the original (I will always love you, Dolly vs Whitney). I just think there is always room in songs. Covers can bring you to a really good song.

Movies are constantly remade but there are many that shouldn't be. We have a new Naked Gun in theaters now. It is getting good reviews, but the original can't be beat. We have 4 versions of A Star is Born. They remade the Magnificent Seven, Bad News Bears, the Longest Yard, Red Dawn, Total Recall, Roadhouse, Point Break, and of all things Ben Hur. So, in Hollywood nothing is sacred.

I love a cover. Another one that surpasses the original: Bruce Springsteen covering Warren Zevon's My Ride's Here.

I saw this clip a few weeks ago. Ehhh its not bad.

My picks and this is a cop out but I don't think there is any song that can't be covered. I've heard some damn good cover songs.
Now as for movies it's Blazing Saddles for me, not in today's "everything offends me and I"m afraid" space.

I don't think A Few Good Men can be redone. Nicholson's speech on the witness stand is enough to make the movie too special to try to recreate.

Funny story on covers. Back in the last century , I worked in a research lab. We had a radio (remember those things?) playing.
Bob Dylan's "knockin on Heavens Door" came on. After a few bars, this youngun says "Hey, whose the guy with the whiny voice singing the GunsN Roses song?"

The Righteous Brothers version was a cover version. There were at least ten recorded cover versions before they got around to it. My grandma had both the Harry Belafonte and Liberace versions of it from the 50s. While I’m a fan of Phil Spector’s production work, I think his production of the Righteous Brothers’ version over complicated a good vocal performa

Zac Brown Band opened for Kenny Chesney last summer and covered it live in their set. It was strangely good.
The ten tenors do a great Bohemian Rhapsody
