“Eye of the Tiger”

I’m not a music person, so here’s a question: Is the rhythm of the first three notes distinct enough that it could be recognized If played in *any* notes?

The first notes of Eye of the Tiger is just a C note played repeatedly. It's just one note not 3. If you played it with a different note, it would not sound like Eye of the Tiger.

Beat me to it, probably 90% of the songs on classic rock stations, since I have heard them all about 10,000 times
I leave classic rock on in the background and have actually wondered if I could name every AC/DC song by the first note only. It's not that I'm a big fan, they just pound their stuff out.

Not just notes, drums as well - I can pick out "Born to Run" and "What's so Funny about Peace Love and Understanding" in about the first nanosecond of the beginning of the song.

Or synthesizer - Baba O'Riley comes to mind, I am sure there are others

If you mean in any octave, Id say yeah, sure.

If you play the notes in the wrong key, peoplebwill still get the idea. You actually see this all the time in TV commercials where the background music is very similar to extremely popular songs, but certain aspects are changed to such a degree that it cant be prosecuted and they cant be charged for use of the song.

Same intervals in a different key should be recognizable to most folks. Just the rhythm of the melody would be much more difficult except for songs with very distinct patterns.

A ton of songs. Maybe not 3 notes (although for sure some I could) but w/in 3 seconds? Literally hundreds. At one time I knew how to play (guitar parts only, not a keyboard player) and all the lyrics to well over 80 Rolling Stones songs (just to name one artist) so, yeah, I could identify a ton of songs that I listen to frequently (>600 on my Spotify liked songs).

Hard Days Night
Jumpin Jack Flash
I Will Follow
Wind Cries Mary
Won't Get Fooled Again
Wonderwall
Can't Get There From Here
School's Out
Paranoid
and so on, and so on
