Sooners vs Shorthorns

Good read, Phaeded.
I still don't know why Barnes and Sawchuk haven't produced the way they did against Florida State....

Probably one reason is that Florida State was 75th in the nation in rushing defense last year. I know they had a fine team, but their run defense wasn't all that good. OU's offensive line was also probably better last year than they have shown to be this year (at least up until this point).

Pretty plain as day really, O line not doing enough and no back has separated himself from the herd. Backs are mediocre and at least to me look slow, no breakaways for big chunks of yards. If you look back on last season Gray separated himself from the rest and pretty much exceeded everyones expectations of him. Nobody this season has done that, BV said himself what happened last yr with the running game vs this season? What he meant was we had a back that separated himself, so far this season nobody has, they are still battling for playing time as all are so far pretty average.

I still don't know why Barnes...

He's not 100%.

"Venables also said running back Jovantae Barnes isn’t fully healthy, which is mainly why he suited up but didn’t play for the second straight week against Iowa State. Venables called it a “funky spot.”

Barnes underwent surgery in the spring to fix a foot ailment that had bothered him since high school, but Venables made it sound like it’s still bugging him."

WR is a clear edge for Texas.
Ewers is also an edge over Gabriel. Ewers has played against better defenses and there is a big edge for QB's who have played in the Red River Rivalry before. This will be Gabriel's first RRR.
Most concerned about Texas's run game and TE. Worthy on the edge is a tough ask for any defender as well.

Guess Sanders will play some, but maybe at half speed. You know they will target him as much as they can…hopefully Ewers will get harassed often.

I could be way off base here, but I found BV's presser Tuesday to be interesting. Towards the end, he volunteered the info about what effect it might have on the team if they lost the game. I was pretty surprised at the answer including that. My gut is that as tough as it might be to beat Texas in the RRR this season, it would be doubly tough to beat them twic.e. My hunch is that BV might know that. This time.

I don't think we'll win, and I don't expect it to be close this time. On a pick the game score on another site, I ruefully picked the Horns by 18. I'd love to be wrong. We'll see. I think they'll make OUr running game look as bad it's been this season, and we'll be in too many third and sevens or more. We'll compete close to equally in a half, but they will widen the margin after halftime, and kind of pull away.

Saturday is about a lot of things. I believe the biggest revelation will be how Jeff Lebby calls the game. If he's brilliant, we have a chance, but he hasn't looked brilliant to me in 18 previous games. Against the best defense he has faced as an OC at OU, it would be a surprise if it showed up, now.
Maybe, most of what you say is true, but I really do think Oklahoma finds a way to Win and Texsux will find a way to lose.
Down with the wronghorns!

Q. How many freshman Wronghorns does it take to change a lightbulb?
A. Zero. That's a sophomore class.

The spread maybe dropping but that doesn’t really affect the outcome. We have looked much better than last year so far but look at the records for the teams we’ve played thus far. The total of the five teams have more losses than wins. In other words, we’ve not played a very challenging schedule. Texas is another animal. IMO, the best thing we have going for us is that this is a major rivalry…..one of the top in the NCAA. The same thing can be said for Texas. From what I’ve seen thus far, it won’t surprise me if one team takes an early two TD lead only to lose the game in the second half. I’m hoping it turns out to be the Sooners.

We will need some things to go our way to beat these guys. I hope we can keep it within two touchdowns.
Yes , we will need some breaks like turnovers or special teams. The run game being stagnant worries me as texas will probably be in Dillon's face all day, OU can hang with texas for 2 quarters but if the defense gets tired , texas may get ahead in the late stages . this has been their approach and how they won all their games. OU cannot allow texas to get ahead early.

More of the same against good teams. Lack of a run game puts all the pressure on DG…..which he doesnt handle well. Lebby again calls head scratching plays that make no sense, and the Texas run game succeeds well enough to open decent passing lanes. Lack of consistant pressure on Ewers spells more than enough trouble. I hate it……but Horns by 21
Lebby makes me nervous with his calls in many games , especially good ones. It seems like sporadic calls that have not utilized the best talents available. Not sure i can forgive him for last year's debacle and zero against texas. Not even with a bad QB should OU not be able to score . Heck texas lost to many mediocre teams last year.
I think if lebby fails to call a good game OU will be exposed as the defense will get tired by the 4th quarter. Hope lebby shows up what he has in this game.

Mario, have you forgotten that OU had Gabriel sidelined and had essentially no viable backup vs Texas last year? After the first quarter in that game I thought that OU would not score....or keep Texas from piling up points.
And the Texas of recent years is not the Texas this year.

Lebby might turn out to be OK in the long run. Time will tell. Remember when the offense stalled under Josh Heupel years ago and Bob Stoops had to fire him? Then there's Chuck "third and" Long. Don't get me started on him.

Ever had a bum toe? For a running back, it makes life really hard. And they tend to linger. That's Barnes.

Sawchuck problem is a hammy. (hammie?) Different injury but very similar dynamic. It's hard to go flat out, concerned about re-injury.

The biggest thing I agree with the guy narrating the video about, is that 29 should be playing a lot more than 24. Under 4.0 for an OU starting running back, is damn close to pathetic.

SEC is sticking with their anti OU agenda. Their glory is slipping through their fingers like sand…if GA somehow loses tonight they will look like the slackjaw asses they are. Go Kentucky !!

Doesnt look promising. UGA up 21-0. It will be interesting to see what movement OU makes in the polls considering 10 AP voters had Tx as number 1. I suspect OU comes in no higher than 7 with Tx a notch below.

ESPN power rankings have us at 5, with Ducks and UW right behind us, but the winner of that game next week may jump us. Doesn’t matter, too many top teams have to play each other and we need to win CCG.
