I'm not your source, am I? LOL
I am about 4 people removed from my source and stated as much when I posted the same info.
Hope we are both right. After thinking about it for a couple of days, I would be excited about Brent.
Remember his energy when he was here?
He was always regarded as our best recruiter then.
And, I think his defenses looked porous because Bob reined his aggressiveness in the last few years he was here.
He went to Clemson and immediately started fielding top 10 defenses.
Only thing I keep going back to: If BV wanted to be a HC (currently makes $2.5 Million), why hasn't he taken one already? He's had lots of opportunities.
We will see.

I'll believe it when I see it, hopefully we see something soon. I would love to have Brent, if not then Dan Lenning the Georgia DC. After that Matt Rhule if he had any interest coming back to college. Rumors are everywhere and until something is announced, that is all they are.

Born and raised Salina, KS.
Played at Garden City Community College and Kansas State.
Coached at KState for 5 years.
Coached at Oklahoma for 12 years.

That's 40 years in OUr neck of the woods and only the last 10 in Carolina. This is home.

Funny now looking back at Riley complaining about Dave Aranda's sportsmanship.
Makes you also wonder about the last minute transfer outs at the beginning of the season - playing with just about only one RB all year.

My question is this: we know Brent did well at Clemson as the DC but here he’d be the HC. Who would he be bringing as his OC and DC? To me it seems like the kids these days need to know that more than they care who the HC is. It’s all about me attitudes. What OC am I going to be coached by etc.

Yes. Venables is on the road recruiting today, and he has more recruiting visits scheduled for Clemson the next few days. If Swinney was confident that Venables was going to be the next head coach at Oklahoma he would not be on the road recruiting for the Tigers.

So hopefully, "The Norman Police Force" won't waste too much overtime waiting for him to show up.

Well, anything is possible. My guess is that the next OU head coach is going to be Matt Rhule.

Deano was just reporting that he now believes, from what he has learned, that the hire is either going to be a someone that is not a fit or a shot in the arm that OU needs. Sounds to me like its an out of the box type of hire? Leach, Kiffin???? Doesn't sound like a Venables though

If it’s Leach or Kiffen I’m going to take a break from watching college ball. How is Leach faring in the SEC and Kiffen is just one boneheaded episode after another imo. Surely we’re shooting higher than these 2? I thought Kiffen just signed an extension for $8/yr?

I don't think its Venables. Kinda hoping it isn't.
I just have a feeling it will likely be somone that most OU Fans will not like.
We will see I guess.
Joe C touched on the fact the other day that if it takes longer than anticipated it could be a guy that has a CCG left or a Playoff Game to Coach in. I immediately thought Aranda but if he was going anywhere I thought it would be LSU. At this point its anyones guess.

Ya I can't see it being either of them either. At least I hope. Deano is now saying that they are waiting til after this Saturday to interview Fickell. I say its either Fickell, Venables, or Beamer.

If I had a nickel for every "being reported" that has been tossed out during these fiascos, I'd be independently wealthy by now.

Unless "being reported" is linked to a credible source (like the guy below), who has historically posted accurate information, and has been corroborated, it means nothing.

For somebody that posts here almost never, you sure are posting plenty in response to speculation threads for somebody that considers themselves not interested in speculation.

I don't respond to speculation threads; I respond to "confirmed" threads that do not have any corroborating evidence. You know, like the ones from a couple of days ago that "confirmed" Brent Venables was at the airport and on his way to the press conference. Totally bogus, unless something happened and he's been hiding out in a broom closet at Will Rogers World Airport for the past two days.

I couldn't find any info on Kiffin getting a raise or extension recently. I read he is making 4.5 to 5 mil currently and an extension or raise would happen after they know which Bowl Game they are going to.
Everyone in Miss believe Kiffin won't be going anywhere unless its for the NFL as a HC but thats what everyone thought about LR as well.

Rhule is ripe for stepping into the job. He’s not doing well in the pros because he doesn’t have a great quarterback or enough solid players. He makes $8.8M which is a number OU can top, IMO. He has recruited well in Texas and been successful building a college program so coming in at OU should be a positive for him. He could bring pro assistants. A lot great opportunities for OU and him in the SEC. Saban didn’t do well as a pro. Lou and Pete didn’t either. College is better for guys like Rhule.

I believe Pete Carrol has done really well in the pros.

No thanks, he didn't exactly tear it up on defense when he was here before.
I think he is making 2.5 mil at Clemson, I doubt OU would top that for a DC and doubt he would come back to make the same he is currently making. Maybe he is holding out at Clemson until Saban retires. Dabo to Bama and Venables gets HC at Clemson. Speculation of course.

I woulda thought he'd be head coach somewhere by now. Then again, he might just be smarter than yer average bear. That clemson defense though? If not head coach, absolutely DC. Venebles is a beast and very successful at his craft obviously. I would love to have him in either capacity.

His name has been mentioned before with HC searches, Arkansas was one a few yrs ago and a few others I forget. Maybe he interviewed for some and it just wasn't the right time or place for him or the Schools felt the same way after interviewing him and went with someone else. Maybe he just has no desire to be a HC and is content with where he is right now.
Not a chance that he has not been contacted by quite a few after winning 2 National Titles while DC at Clemson.

At this point I think all of us just want to know who it is going to be. A HC needs to be named soon to stabelize the recruiting or keep players out of the portal.
