Well, this is a wtf.

This makes little sense to me. Given that this is a lateral move at best (if not a step down) there must be more here than simply another job opportunity. SC is not going to pay him more than PSU and recruiting will be harder for him going against not only other powerhouse SEC programs but also Clemson in an area where he has no relationships. Add to that that Beamerr's seat is scalding hot and that should raise eyebrows. Maybe he did not see a fit with the new regime? Maybe he did not want to sign on for a rebuild?

So CMC needs a new DC and DL coach. I think the other defensive coaching slots are filled.

Wasn’t Jackson Ford led to believe that Barnes would be at PSU? Seems like this changed very recently.

Hopefully he doesn't ask to be released from his signing to PSU. I expect CMC can address the situation with recruits.

I don’t know how Beamer survived this season.
No kidding. They played like dog sh*t. LaNorris Sellers regressed and they ended up lower than Mississippi State. They have lost both starting corners projected to the first round of the NFL and lack edge and lb play. The offense will be brand new after Shula was fired.

It is a dumpster fire and Barnes is surely going in eyes wide open. Appears that he really wanted out of Dodge.

I certainly wanted to retain Barnes, but perhaps this is the truth. Or perhaps MC didn’t value him at the same salary level as South Carolina. Remember that we way overpaid for Terry and made him the highest paid assistant coach in all of college football. That was the correct decision, but our budget is not infinite and perhaps difficult decisions need to be made.

Not sure why everybody is bummed about Barnes. I feel like he lost a lot of recruiting battles and I feel like our defensive line regressed a lot from previous year however I’m not a expert not sure if Knowles is to blame for that or not
He has ties to Penn State which makes it tough for many to see him leave.

We will need someone who can recruit Philly. We cannot give up on the area. South Carolina, who has gone up against us in recent recruiting battles, will now have a presence in the Philadelphia region.

I guess Larry Johnson Sr called him again with more advice. Wouldn't be the first time Barnes quit on Penn State

Why are some people up in arms over this? There literally could be 5 or more different reasons this happened!

The sky isn’t falling. Turnover and new ideas are needed, whether people like it or not.

Weird that his choice was to go to SC.. A place that will be firing the coach next year. If he was so coveted, why didn’t BGJ bring him to VT?

Yeah, I wasn't gonna say it but I was certainly thinking it. Our DLs got worse each year under Barnes.

After the initial shock, seeing a lot of PSU folks on the boards out there not sad about this news. I was shocked myself initially but the results on the field show that perhaps MC was correct in not goving ip the house for him.

Recruiting DTs in particular have been a source of weakness for years at Penn State. It would be a good thing to see someone else given the DL coach opportunity at Penn State.

This is a good outcome for Barnes who will get more money. Also, it’s a good outcome for coach Campbell who will get his guy instead of inheriting Franklin’s staff.

Campbell was probably luke warm on him. I am not sorry about the loss. We can get someone better. The D Line was never physical enough, too soft and could not dominate. Lack of tfl and sacks. Carter saved us or we would look back over the last few years as really underwhelming.
