This is awful, under the current guidelines what do we gain from playing VT and Coastal, they both will bring down the SOS if we win, and heaven forbid we loose then we are out

I think I'm going to hit 3 games next year - haven't been to more than 1 game in a year since moving to Austin in 2006.

VT in Atlanta with my wife.
LSU in Baton Rouge with friends.
A&M in College Station with wife and kiddos.

A few interesting points.

Our game against Va Tech in Atlanta is on Labor Day _Sunday_.

Looking at our toughest stretch:
We have a bye week before traveling to LSU, but so do they.
We play Oklahoma the week after they play Texas (we play LSU the week before, but at least we're not traveling two weeks in a row).
We play Alabama the week after they play Tennessee.
We travel to Ole Miss the week after they play Oklahoma.
We have a bye week before traveling to A&M (they play Mizzou the week before)

So, have we decided if the schedule gods were kind this year?

I still don't like to see a schedule without at least one of UGA, FL, TN. Doesn't feel right.
I go way back. A schedule doesn't feel right without more of our old ACC rivals than simply Clemron,

Methinks that there will be some adjustments in the dancing criteria outside of the AQs in the coming years. Too many vocal complaints, and playing too many mid-majors and FCS opponents defeats the purpose of it all.

Va Tech is still in the ACC aren't they? Or did they move to one of the super-sized conferences?

VPI had their nose pressed against the ACC window for decades until "forced" to be invited in at the behest of Charlottesville 30+ years after we left.

We played them regularly in hoops and football during out latter ACC days, and we were both members of the Metro Conference at the same time. I like the idea of playing them, but to me, it does not count as an ACC rival.

I consider our ACC rivals to be those 7 schools in the league at the time we left - e.g., Maryland is "in", Georgia Tech is "out." Now I wouldn't mind scheduling the Jackets more, akin to VPI.

Regarding the hoops challenge, I hope that next year they pair both USC men and women with a Big Four school or UVA.

I think the die was already cast that we'd be given no "kindness" next year when they announced that the teams would be the same as this year. But the timing of those games next year could have certainly be worse than the way it panned out.
