What a great read. Thank you to this site for that. Anyone around back in the day will enjoy reliving those memories. To those too young, I highly recommend reading it to get a feel of our history.

By the way, I remember Big Frank McGuire talking about having to go to the "state capitol in Barnwell". :ROFLMAO:

Won the title on a tiebreaker with Clemson, having identical 4-2 conference records. Not unlike our lone SEC East title.

Also worth noting that in 1965 Clemson had won 58% of the games in the rivalry. In 2024 they have 61%. Pretty constant.

Sol Blatt tried to replace McGuire with Greg Blatt who I believe was his son.

Gregg was the son of Sol Blatt Jr. I don’t know about your story. I’m pretty old and that was in my college young adult days and I don’t remember that. I went to school in Williston which is 10 miles from Barnwell. Gregg Blatt did get a basketball scholarship to USC. Didn’t play that much. I played against him in high school. He was a pretty good QB and a decent bb player. Never heard that story though, and I’m pretty close with some of the grandchildren of the Blatts and the Browns.
