Mike Stoops had energy and enthusiasm. Lets see how they look against TX next year.

Mike Stoops yelled a lot and used a lot of energy throwing things and looking like a crazy man when he was on TV. Never noticed any kind of enthusiasm or energy like I'm seeing from Coach Grinch.

If OU leads Texas 21-20 with two minutes to play and Texas has possession at its own 25 yard line.....and OU stops them before they reach mid-field to win the game, THEN I will get excited about Grinch.
The late game losses by OU over almost two decades are numerous. Too numerous.

No reason not to get excited. We all wanted a change and we got it.

Defensively, attitude and effort can mean as much as execution. These coaches are proving, so far, that you better be hungry if you want to play.

Also the extreme offensive numbers put up against the OU Defense is really sickening. Sometimes by just average QBs too !!

I agree 100%. I don't care how they do until I see them make a stop against TX with the game on the line.

That's actually a fairly low bar. They did that during the Big 12 Championship game. I'm looking for consistent performances that aren't based on hoping the opponent doesn't score last.

Good luck with that in the Big12.
It's not HOPING the opponent doesn't score last, nor is it a lowering the bar. It's about making clutch stops when the game is on the line....something that has not been part of this team's "DNA" over the years. I'm tired of it.

Well you are right.......there is a low bar right now. That was set through several years of bar lowering by our pathetic defensive performances.

Are you cranky today? During the last 2 seasons, all we had was hope that the defense could make clutch plays. Consistently making those plays should be our expectation. When the offense is scoring 40+ in a game, it shouldn't come down to a clutch play to win every damn game. I was saying it would be awesome to have a defense that can be EXPECTED to make those plays.

I want to see a defense get off the field on 3rd and long. Gave up way to many of those the past couple of years.

I want to see a defense that is prepared for the game, doesn't make the same mistakes over and over again, a defensive coordinator that puts the players in the spots to make plays and a defensive coaching staff that will actually help the players improve over the course of a season.

Whether it should or shouldn't come down to one play to stop an opponent's drive isn't the only issue. Agree, it shouldn't come down to making a clutch play on defense to win a game....but too often it has.
The issue is having OU's defense keeping a late, game winning score from happening. Every team fails to stop a late rally from happening from time to time......it just seems that OU is the "poster child" for allowing these late and too numerous rallies.
If OU's defense had been just mediocre in 2017-2018, we might be looking forward to MNC #10 right now.

That's my point in its entirety.

Manning is definitely motivating. I would be interested to see some more of Grinch at practice. I wonder what his style is like.

It’s not going to be an overnight 180, but there’s definitely going to be vast improvements made this year and it will only get better as Grinch’s system takes hold and he’s able to recruit to it.

How can you not be excited about this upcoming season? :D

We asked for a different energy on D and we are getting it. Players moving positions and zero complacency will mean good things in Sept. and once the D unit gels. I do not see one offense on the schedule that has me cringing. Blast all these ducks with both barrels !!
