Here's how each of Spencer's 3-point attempts went:

1H 18:53 - Audige sags too deep, takes a step towards doubling McConnell at the top of the key, Spencer gets an uncontested shot from the wing and makes it
1H 8:49 - Roper contests a deep three well and he misses it
1H 6:38 - Berry is late coming over to defend, goes flying by on the shot fake, and Spencer hits a wide-open three
2H 16:08 - Audige is main defender on Spencer, but leaves him to contest a rebound unsuccessfully. Hyatt finds an open Spencer as Berry is late rotating over to contest the shot.
2H 14:55 - Berry is a step late but contests a deep three well, Spencer makes it anyway
2H 2:27 - Nicholson goes for the steal and misses, allowing Omoruyi to screen Roper who doesn't fight through or put a hand up. Spencer banks it in
2H 0:15 - As mentioned in other threads, Roper was initial defender, moves to follow McConnell. Omoruyi goes to screen for Mulcahey, Nicholson follows, Omoruyi rolls, Nicholson is late causing Audige to sag down to cover Omoruyi leaving Spencer wide open for the game-winner

A whole lot of Buie hate in many threads and yet he was not responsible for any of Spencer's threes.

Seriously, how weird was that immediate switch between Roper and Audige? It was definitely best for Audige to be the guy on Spencer; I’m just not sure why he didn’t start on him.

And of course, I’m sure he wishes he never left Spencer, and he shouldn’t have. But he clearly wasn’t coached to ‘stick to Spencer and never leave him’, which would have been the appropriate approach.

Note: I watched that play probably a dozen times. Maybe switches like this happen all the time.

I watched Spencer during warmups. He stayed on the court for 5 minutes after his teammates had headed to the locker room. Just him and a student manager. He probably put up an extra 50 shots, mostly from 3 point range, seemingly making 90% of them. He’s a hard-working kid. Good for him — just wish it wasn’t against us.
