OK so I thought I would bring this up we're all big sports fans most of us love Kentucky yada yada. We should have the best hoops team next year we've had since the 2015 squad... Here's the question and I'd love to know y'all's take on this

why is the idea that we can have sports again this year with fans a nonstarter in the eyes of the sports media. Most of them seem to be on team virus happy as can be sports are shut down despite the fact it's their meal ticket which is suspicious to begin with

as for the notion that we have to have sports with no fans my question is why? says who? The people that want to go will go and they know there's a risk (like there's always been going to a game with several thousand strangers). Those who are wary will stay home. The problem solves itself so what the hell is the issue other than a government and a media who delights in having a nanny state

If there was a baseball game tomorrow for your favorite team would you go? I sure as **** would. There were games in front of packed basketball arenas up until mid March has anybody found out if any of those people got sick? I'd be very curious to know

When they stop paying the sports writers they'll change their tune. Until then.

Thought this was an interesting take. Imo he's right, fans feed the sport illusion. No fans would be a disaster for the industry.

i don't even really see the point of opening an arena or stadium and not selling tickets food beer etc for very long. The bundisliga is gonna be back next Saturday behind closed doors in Germany

I don't think most people realize how completely pointless sports would be with no fans

Watching sports from my home with fans in the stands or no fans in the stands is irrelevant to me.

Sports today is about TV contract money.

They’re just being realistic about the projections. Sporting events involve hundreds of staff. One of them gets a fan sick and you’re getting your *** sued off. Despite internet bravado many businesses are projecting that this takes three years to adjust to and recover from economically.

How in the heck is anyone going to prove where they got sick? Outside of recklessness (as in a nursing home), I just don’t see it. Almost everyone is going to have protocols and best practices. With such a long lead time for symptoms to show, and many cases being asymptomatic, it’s an impossible task to prove.

This doesn't make sense to me, and maybe I am the one missing it. For one, how do you know where one gets sick and who passed it to whom? But more puzzling, no one gets their "*** sued off" when someone at an event comes down with the flu, pneumonia, AIDS or any other virus. If that is the new standard, we might as well cancel everything going forward.

Just spelling out some of the articles I’ve read and listened to quoting various industry leaders. They’ll figure something out but the timeline might be longer than people want to hear.

If fans want to go and take the risk of getting Covid 19 and the extremely low risk of it actually killing them they should be allowed to.

I don't know how they could be sued but they could be required to sign a waiver in order to attend.

I am willing to go to football games this fall, hopefully in less than packed stadiums. But problem is what do you do when a fan brings it home or to work with him the next day and infects others who did not sign a waiver?
