Saw a few plays via the YouTube link above. My fears were confirmed

Spring games should be judged by how many injuries they have. They are just entertainment.

I have a hard time judging the players or coaches too much, because if one unit struggles, it may be because the other unit, also ours, is just good. Is the OL struggling that bad, or is the DL just that good?

Our O line has been a project seemingly every year that struggles to protect the QB or anyone else who gets the ball behind the line of scrimmage. For anyone looking for a glimmer of hope for improvement on that front, I guess the spring game isn't it.

Unless we hope the rebuilt DL is just awesome?

I know.....

Didn't see. Heard Sellers didn't have a clean pocket most/all of the time he was in.

Been to two spring games...1985 when you could still go down on the field before the game for pictures and autographs; Mike Hold was the longest line, The game was pretty vanilla and as it turned out so was our season. Second was 1995 after our first bowl win; Anthony Wright was a freshman, Tanneyhill the incumbent. Offense looked like an absolute record setting unit. As it turned out, we had to score 40+ during the season just to stay in games. Ever since then I pay zero attention to spring games.

However little spring games used to mean in terms of projecting the season, they mean even less now. That said, it’s just a fun time for the fans. Looking at it as anything beyond that is pointless. I doubt coaches put much time at all into developing schemes or play calls or anything like that.

From my perspective, historically, they were basically viewed as something for the fans. Typically with an opportunity to get up close and personal with the players, get some autographs and photos. Then they started broadcasting the games and people begin to look at them as much more serious events than they ever had been.

Exactly.. Not when you don't trot the A team out there. Simply no point in doing that if you want players to get reps and lessen the risk of injuries. It's entertainment and fun for them and the fans. Not a real game...

Agree totally. That’s why I don’t watch

What fears? That it was a mixed bag of players on each side and no Oline consistency? Skip it..
I was kind of being tongue in cheek because of that very thing. Always have tons of players out and then you break up your starters. It’s never been all inspiring.

This is why spring games are so pointless. If the offense looks good, that means the defense sucks. If the defense looks good, that means the offense sucks. You can take absolutely nothing from the results of a spring game. That's even truer considering the fact that the team was "drafted" instead of divided by 1s and 2s, etc.

Agreed. It's pure entertainment. No conclusions can be drawn beyond the injuries.
