Only a trap game if Minnesota is the next opponent. Otherwise we will be ready.

Im going with a heralded showing from stud walk-ons Belt and Feist to keep the kool-aid flowing into August only to have them buried on depth chart come Ireland game.

I see some nice weather, friends and I getting drunk on my patio, smoking a brisket from the day before and getting way too excited about all of the QBs.

I anticipate fewer 3rd-and-medium non-contact green jersey quarterback draws will be called.

Haarberg will lead his team to another W

Its been quiet on the Haarberg front, I hope he emerges as the number 2 guy, and hopefully not because the others all suck.

I hope the second best QB emerges as our number 2 guy. I think Whipple is liking what he sees from Logan. HH may be just another fan favorite/spring game hero that never plays a meaningful down here. It’s still way too early to say though.

Frost, wants to divvy up into teams but is concerned about numbers. They should choose ones on D and O and have them on opposing teams. Divide the rest of the player to each team and play good on good and rest on rest. Allow for some Jersey swapping of skill guys and thin psns like Dline. Get the guys who don’t need a lot of work their snaps early and let the younger kids play a lot of the second half.
They should do this every spring game.

Not a bad idea.

I'd like to see #1 O vs. #3 D. Next series #1 O vs. #2 D. Then #1 O vs. #1 D.
Other side of the ball #1 D vs. #3 O. #1 D vs #2 O. Then #1 D vs. #1 O.

Top Offensive and Defensive units get 3 series each.

It doen't make a difference how the units are divided. I will watch regardless. I'm sure coaches are just as interested in who knows how much of the playbook, and who needs to hunker down before fall.

I'd still like the see the #1 units oppose each other.

Can add or maybe reduce a bit of angst among those who are watching. May as well give us fans something to talk about for the next few months.

With 150 players on a roster, where all the players are getting reps because we run practice on multiple fields, I would think that getting 88 of them to run 4 teams shouldn't be all that difficult. I would hope we don't have 62 players out with injury. Even if you adjust the number of players down to 130, to account for players that have moved on and the early enrollees that joined in January, that is still 42 players that need to be injured to the point of not being able to participate in spring workouts.

Which goes back to my opinion that having 150 on the roster is a huge waste of time and money. With a roster that large, if you can't get enough players to field a few teams and play a glorified scrimmage, you either have a bunch of people that don't need to be taking reps from anyone or you aren't allocating position groups very well for players 120 - 150.

Frost said there are some position groups that are thin and would require shuffling from sideline to sideline. Said he wants the game but will do what is best for the team.

I always figured 120 was plenty. Hell, that's 5 deep and a lot of kids play more than one position.
Even back in the day during a 63-0 blowout, Osborne would make sure to say NU played 105 kids or so. If you can't get in a 63-0 blowout, something is wrong.

Then the part of my post where I wrote that they aren't doing a good enough job of allocating positions groups applies. With 150 players you should be at more than 5 people for 22 positions.

I don't think we have nearly the number of legit D-1 walk on O linemen that we used to have on the roster. I suspect we might be short on O linemen and D linemen more than anything. No doubt we have plenty of DBs, RBs and WRs. I agree though that it seems illogical that we can't come up with teams with the size of the roster. Not my problem I guess.

I wish I was looking forward to watching it. I love that it's broadcast live.

I don't know if I'll tune in or not. My enthusiasm for Husker Football has taken a beating the last 20 years.

I was thinking the same about how can they not have enough walk-ons to fill in for a scrimmage?

They don’t have to be good or ready. They’re bodies you throw out there for roughly half a game after the top group sits.

I think they take an inflated number of undersized kids for walk-ons, so they are probably short on the trench players.

Avoiding injuries is more important than the game itself, but running a massive walk-on program and not being able to handle a scrimmage seems “odd.”
