These teams play at a completely different level than NU and several other BigTen teams. The pace, ball movement, quickness and athleticism are over the top. They play savage defense and are physical. These teams can beat anybody in the country!

My take on NU recently is that they recruited for the wrong type of game. THey have a lineup constructed to get tall thin guys who can shoot the 3....which might have worked if they had some bigger gaurds who could finish at the rim...they need some space creators. Only Ryan Young and Adagee seem to meet this requirement. Team plays hard, do a lot of things right but in the end lose to the physicality of the other team.
LU had guards who could finish in the MVC but could not against OSU...there was some heft and length in the paint. and you also need some big physical guys to set good screens. Hopefully NU will get some more physical guys on the roster But was great to see St.Peters and Murry St go after it.

St. Francis was not the only NJ school sending Kentucky home in the NCAA tournament. #11 Princeton also upset #6 Kentucky.

Without those big physical guys, you also end up relying on the lower percentage three. In the end, both Collins and Carmody have centered their game on the three. Someone will say that's the "modern" game, and it should be when you have those guys. Most teams do not, especially when you're recruiting at the NU level.

Carmody was forever looking for his center who could open things up. Collins is forever looking for his 4 to do the same.

I hope someone looks toward West Layfayette where Painter obviously values size to keep some consistency. I've also read recently that Europe is starting to lean toward more traditional bigs.

Remember that he also chooses not to play his guys with size.

The only reason Pardon got on the court as a freshman was desperation. If he doesn’t play half that season, there’s no way he’s ready to be the stabilizing force as a sophomore. Wouldn’t we kill for a guy who viewed ‘attack the boards’ as job one?

Yeah, maybe on a given night, but I wonder what they would do in a 20-plus Big Ten grind of a schedule. I'll be rooting for St. Peters but will be surprised if they go any farther.

I know you're talking about past years also, but this year he only had a "guy" he chose not to play ... singular.

But you need more than one.

And I don't buy the theory that playing Young 13 more min/game would have been program changing.

Aside from that, there's no excuse for how soft Beran and Nance play.

It’s the style of play, quickness, defense and athleticism. They play at 110% the entire game. Different game than NU plays.

Anthony Gaines lit 'em up for 15 points in the second win against the 'cocks. B1G athleticism.

There was a guy with a rebounding mindset down at the end of the bench.

The issue for our traditional centers is that the coach tells them to get the hell away from the offensive boards and go set screens 25 feet from the basket.

Scored more against them than Ivey did tonight. What a game!
Ivey spit the bit tonight. PurDon't did their usual fold job.

And just how did Siena beat St. Peter's not once but twice this season????
