Well this is a huge game this Friday....no it's not because both teams are coming in undefeated, but rather winless. I don't think this has ever happened before. I know it has not been since 1979 season. Starmount and Elkin both 0-4 to start the season. It's a Mountain Valley Conference game, so the winner will be headed in the right direction starting the conference season.

The Battle of the Bridge will be at Elkin this year. Any thoughts?

Im going with Starmount to get at victory @ Grissom Stadium. It is kinda of weird seeing these two former perennial powerhouses searching for their 1st win over a month into the season. Will a victory by one of these 2 teams on Friday night jumpstart them to a tear thru the conference, or are all the other conference foes on the upswing? Who knows? Too bad no one feels sorry for these two teams...as they have beaten everyone in the conference to a pulp throughout the years...Good luck to both teams..and to all mvac conference teams for an injury free start up.

Elkin is very limited in depth. Some good size on line but just can't go iron man whole game these days. Honestly elkin would be better off to change their classification to a charter school and then get students from all the surrounding area. Would be a huge boost financially as well

Elkin's in real rough shape right now. Varsity is the worst I've ever seen them in my 10 years; their JV team will be where the wins for their program will come from this year. Varsity I don't see them getting a win unless North Wilkes chokes again (it could happen,) or something crazy ala 2014 happens. JV I see them winning 2 possibly. They had 2 okay JV teams the last couple years. Not as good as the title days or even when Strickland's class came thru but they worked hard and won some games on JV. Don't know why they are having issues on varsity; either those JV kids didn't come out to play or just didn't develop well. They had an awful start; that's as much due to who they faced as they played a mix of 4 physical and finesse teams from Surry Co and Forbush. The only team they played close was Forbush. If they had down 1A schools like North Stokes or South Davidson they may could have had a win or 2 on their margin by now.

Starmount's the favorite on paper due to having a tough schedule and almost winning week 2, but Elkin always plays hard during this week. We all counted them out 2 years ago and they won. Their JV team beat Starmount last year; that doesn't mean they will win this year but these juniors have done it before. I think it will depend on two main things: 1. How Elkin handled their bye week and if they changed anything, and 2. If Starmount can play hard and play their system well.

I think Starmount will do it but you never know with this series.

The downcycle for Elkin was predictable for a few seasons, it was expected, and it isn't over.

Starmount wasn't expected to win many this year either, they will be expected to win a little more next year but that program isn't in the best of shape right now for the forseeable future either.

The best class at either school for the coming seasons is Elkin's 8th.

having seen both, I give the edge to the Rams...but this is a rivalry and in these games there's always that extra effort...Elks need to let 9 touch the ball as much as possible
