A theory on the slow starts: bunch of guys who never played together before, still trying to figure it out game by game. And just maybe, Pope is a helluva in-game coach? Plus they've got some guys who are real fighters and do NOT give up - Oweh and Butler in particular.

People complained about Cal's teams starting slow against good competition and now they're doing the same for Pope. Maybe it's just hard to play top teams?

The good thing is, if you consider the Ohio State game as an anomaly that won't be repeated(which I do), this team has shown that getting behind double digits won't rattle them or cause them to give up.

The slow start was because we didn’t come out with intensity on defense. That has nothing to do with the opponent.

We only had 5 points at the first TV timeout. That's not just a lack of defensive intensity.

Exactly why those two games against Duke and Gonzaga were worth more than just two wins. This team could be down by 15 at the half of a tournament game, Pope can tell the guys at halftime "we have them right where we want them" and it's...kind of 100% true.

Not at all. I think they did get a little bit of quit at the end of the OH ST game because it was really about a 10 point game even at the end we just didn’t give anything the last 3:30 of the game.

I wouldn’t say a game like the OSU game won’t happen again, the SEC is gonna be brutal, It will be difficult to get up for every single one of them. So we will have another crap game or two along the way.

I ain't saying we won't lose or have any more bad games. I'm just saying we won't have one AS BAD as the Ohio State game and I'll stand by that until we do play another one that bad.
