They look a lot like 2015 with their size and guard play. They come at you in waves and beat you into submission. Last night was like our beatdown of KU in late 2014.

Isn’t amazing how good a coach looks when he builds a roster of pieces that work together, and plays in actual games as a reflection of their coach’s personality during practices?

Actually they killed a ranked Bama right before that game....
So if they lose the next one that won't be losing 2 in a row? I just stated a fact that Gonzaga played a clunker of a game like almost all teams do on occasion. Did they not try against Michigan like they did against Alabama? Or maybe nobody is as good as they look in their best games or as bad as they look in their worst games...

I think the point was pretty obvious in that they actually beat someone with a pulse and UK has yet to do that. Disagree with that?

No, I don't. My point was that Michigan is not 40 points better than Gonzaga. Gonzaga played a bad game. It happens to all but the greatest teams and sometimes even then.

We’d prefer to be “pining” for UK’s coach, but he’s left a lot to be desired during non-cupcake games, so this is where we are at right now.
The only thing I can think of to explain the slow starts is poor game preparation.

Not sold that Michigan has a championship backcourt.
They are put together a lot like the '15 UK team but inferior at all 5 positions.
Their makeup could be vulnerable to speed.
They look really good but they have also had a couple of subpar games to date. It's way to early to declare them as the team to beat for a natty. Its a long season and just entering December. Florida wasn't on anyone's radar for a natty this time last year.

What he is doing this year is exactly what pope did last year at this time. Something to keep in mind. Small sample size for both coaches right now

Iowa is McCollum’s dream school.

I’ll be honest i didn’t even realize he had already moved on from Drake until a few days ago. 1 year and Iowa snatched him. I think Iowa will be a top 10 team as long hes there. McCollum is a basketball savant.

His style of play is kind of grindy…half court oriented. His principles are similar to Hurley’s. But he’s not as unhinged as Hurley. McCollum is a wholesome family guy but he’s still got more of a mean streak and more fire than Pope for sure.

bottom line the dude is a winner.

Yeah but a massive blue blood offer may change his mind.
McCollum
Oats
May
Lloyd

We could take a shot at Golden but he has already won a ship at Florida so it may be like asking Billy D to leave.

That should be the starting list if Pope can’t get the job done here.

i domt get the infatuation with mccollum, id rather have devries, drew, and tang over him
Because McCollum has won everywhere he has been, much like IU’s football coach. He’s young and you can tell just watching them play he knows how to really coach.

Devries may not be a bad option, but again if he gets Indiana rolling why leave? Tang blows, he had one good run at a bad Cal coaching job like always. Drew just got the brakes beat off him. He had his years and im glad we didn’t hire him. He can recruit decently, but his teams haven’t been elite since his NC.

McCollum was a prolific winner at the D2 level. 4 titles. probably wins a fifth if not for Covid as they were a heavy favorite when that happened. And were up 1 with 5 seconds left snd going to the line for a 1 and 1 in a true road game in the S16 against the eventual champion two seasons ago as well. bricked the front end and the other team took the rebound down the court in 5 seconds and Luke Maye’d them.

If you liked bruce pearl, he came from D2. McCollums D2 resume puts Pearls to shame.

And he’s only 44 i think

Michigan is a team to keep an eye on for many reasons. I disagree with people downplaying their dominance. Yes, they struggled and had to win some close games early including an OT game. They beat Gonzaga by 40 and the night before that they also had a 30 point win as well versus Auburn. They are by far the best team in the country for now.

What’s interesting is how their roster is built. They only have one returning player in their rotation and everyone else is portal mercenaries. I’m curious to see how it all plays out for Michigan. Do they start to struggle at some point? If they win a title with this team, it will change everything we know about CBB in this era and teams will start building even harder from the portal.

Gonzaga had one of those games folks around here think only happens to UK.
Its a sad state. Im hoping most of these folks are trolls and not actually representative of our fanbase, because its a sad day if they are. Fans stick by their team through thick and thin, watch them develop and pull for the name of the front of the jersey. Half the people on here quit on the kids and want to fire the coach after a couple of early season losses...with star players injured. Really pathetic
