Hey Team,

a bit of a reach here but lets give it a try. We ( The Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited ) are looking for area Veterans that fly fish to participate in our Veterans Service Program.

We have been generously awarded a private stretch of Spring Creek to access for Veteran use only. We are having a ceremony on November 9 to thank the land owner and raise awareness. We are looking for a few women and men that served for designated fishing slots that day so everyone has lots of room to roam on the stream. Non Professional Guides will be available to assist those that are novices.

This is going to be an ongoing project so if you cannot make the celebration and fit the criteria, hit Tgar up anyway.

Morning and afternoon slots will be available and I believe we have about 10 slots remaining.

To learn more, If you are a veteran, and if this is of interest to you ( as well as other Veteran Service Project initiatives ) shoot me a text. 610- 823-1826.

Thank You.

Thanks for the response.( where is here BTW ? )

So, Healing Waters is not affiliated with Trout Unlimited, different specific missions. Having said that, they do partner from time to time. The closest Healing Waters Chapter to State College is Pittsburgh.

Hat sort of assistance are you looking for with respect to hunting? Have you considered asking around at your local Legion for someone who may be of assistance?

Here is North Carolina

My dream has always been to start a non-profit along the same lines as PHW, only for hunting. teach veterans/first responders basic woodsmanship and assist them in becoming a hunter. I've always been a hunter but seen the value, especially post-PTSD diagnosis, that hunting provides mentally.

I've thought about becoming a VFW or legion member, just never gone about getting it done.

A bit off topic but, back when I was a student in the mid 90's I used to take day old bread to feed the gigantic breeders in downtown Bellfonte. Very cool! ($29 half kegs of Rolling Rock from the distributor on the hill was the real draw to town). Fast forward 25 years later, I found some extra time with my daughter at freshman orientation and I was throwing bread from the same spot, though it didn't seem that there were as many as back then. That and ducks were a menace. Eff the ducks!

I believe there are PHW events near Altoona as well, although i dont know if they're an official chapter. I have tried to volunteer a couple times, but cant seem to hit an event i can make. I have also gave location suggestions to guys i know organizing the events.

Back in the 80s, wasn't part of Spring Creek contaminated and only for catch/release?
If so, has it recovered?

Spring Creek is designated as a Trophy Trout water. Open tackle, open all year. All catch and release. With additional regulations on certain sections.
