Gerald McCoy, who claims to be close to Stone, is implying that there's more to it but I'm not really buying it.

Stone's entire recruiting process was a relentless grab for attention. Which is fine as these kids are living the dream so to speak, so soak it up. But it lends credibility to his character and the idea that this is about his ego and money.

It was clear that he wasn't going to be a starter and not really climb the depth chart even, and while simultaneously demanding to much money.

These young men wanted to get paid and make this a business. In the business world you gotta produce. As of now Stone's juice isn't worth the squeeze and Nagy is here to make those decisions.

I really wanted to see David succeed so this sucks regardless. Much like the Nico situation at Tennessee, patience, perseverance and the reality of what you're bringing to the table versus what you want in return, appear to be lost on this young man.

It's nothing personal but it's better for the sport in the long run that Stone and Nico fall hard on their faces. Those coming up behind them need to learn from the mistakes of the current guys.

Rumors:

Stone was hit a significant reduction in his NIL and the sole reason for his testing the waters. Not guaranteed that he is gone as many reports that he wants to be at Oklahoma.

If true thats understandable but it's also understandable that Oklahoma doesn't want to pay DT1 price for potential. Stone would definitely play and be a important piece of the rotation but not yet a starter.

This is the new world of college ball. I see both sides so no hard feelings but I'm a Sooner fan not an "insert player's name" fan.

Yes, just another example that Rivals' star ratings are not the be-all and end-all of actual performance. Just ask Sam Bradford and Baker Mayfield.
Agree.
Recruiting is and always has been an inexact science.
I wish that a boy’s character (and perhaps his parents) would be scrutinized more and not just his on the field resume.
Having celebrity status as a 16-17-18 year old can be problematic on several levels.

"David Stone entering the portal on Good Friday only to return three days later on Easter Sunday would be just the madness I’ve come to expect from College Football in 2025."

He is going to have a lot of pressure on him to perform. My prediction is that he will be solid, but nothing spectacular. Wouldn't be surprised to see him place this NIL game again.

I'm glad we resigned him, but coming on the heels of what coach Heupl did at Tennessee we did exactly what Josh was raving about.
Paid the kid more.
I guess all is well in Love, war and the transfer portal.

Some from reputable X sources, he wasn’t paid more, he was paid what the original agreement was and he was in the portal because he was getting a deduction.

My gut tells me keeping him is really going to pay off.
