That's excellent news.

Generating a consistent pass rush should get us to 6 wins..

A pass rush + our secondary = a pretty good defense.

Tell you what, if the dline is much improved from last year and same for oline, this team will win 6-7 games this year. I expect the offense to be very potent and a defense that gets 3 and outs will help tremendously!! Let's GO!

if Donte Rumph can eventually materialize from years-long internet myth status into an actual person who contributes on the field, than anyone can
[jumpingsmile] I thought the same thing. Hope to spectre/rumor of a man to 'oh..there he is and he's helping'

Bell was the one time jewel of that 2013 class early on. Would personally love it in several ways if he ends up making a real difference.

I expect 6 or 7 wins if they improve at all, (think the OL improving is a given), if both are "much" improved I expect more.

The OLine should improve if for no other reason than scheme. I don't put much stock into what the famous anonymous SEC coach said. Gran and Dawson run two different offenses. The difference being that Gran will utilize the QB run, TE game, and mix things up so that defenses can't get to/rush the QB Every. Single. Down.

Now, I've heard from the usual internet sources that Bell has been impressing everyone since he got here. Was a damn good player on scout team.

If only Hatcher were still here. I doubt there'd be as much angst. Still plenty of worry, but we'd have more experience.

If Bell can help us get six, then I'm all for it. One last Joker boy. Let us also not forget that if our offense can get close to sustaining anything ( a forest fire in midsummer?) that our defense will actually get a chance to breathe, which I think was a huge problem last season. Here's to hoping.

I have to agree...if we can get better production out of Bell/Kenegra this year vs. last year at DE...we'll be in a better place on DL.

I'm sort of feeling like Elam is going to be really solid this year at NG and Ware is going to play better than he did last year.

this is yet another UK football fan tradition, going into the season wishing for several players who flunked out/had legal problems/bad injuries.
eh, happens everywhere but are magnified for us to due to lack of good depth. We're finally starting to see fewer and fewer question marks out there. This year we have got to take the next step.

Physically, we look more ready than at any point I can remember. Looks like the boys really got to it in the summer!

Meant played pretty good before his injury last year as a rs so. I expect him to continue getting better..
I also think middleton could make the same improvement that meant made going from his Fr to So year..same could be said for miggons. Juco normally make good improvement in there second year.. You never know, different guys develope differentially. Thats why i never write them off before giving them time to develope..

As I have said repeatedly on here... If the offense averages 30-35 ppg we will do pretty well because if it is is anemic as it has been the last two years we will not. Go back and check recent history of all the teams we have upset and see what the scores were in those games... this is not your daddy's or your grandpa's college football anymore. As a matter of fact just check college football scores in general

Agreed. MOF, Gran's offense is more like the original Air Raid than Dawson's ever was. Gran wants to create mismatches and throw short to midrange passes A LOT! Seemed like all Dawson wanted to do was "throw it deep"!

^Which was suicide with our tackles last year RV.

I remember being overmatched against LSU in 07, but we used roll outs and chips to help out. Playcalling made all of the difference and let our playmakers make plays.

I'm not sure how we'll do it this time around, but I have faith that Gran knows how to call plays that will not hang the tackles out to dry, especially against superior talent. Shook my head so many times last year...

I'm pretty sure Bell is a SDE, where Hatcher played WDE/Jack....(Ware's position this year).

Also, this was no internet rumor. The statement that he may be a sleeper came from Stoops himself.

1) Exactly. Having two upgrades/returnees at those positions would've been huge. Hatcher wasn't a star, but he was a pretty good contributor. Having Bell across from JH would've been a nice pair to see.

2) The coaches were raving about Bell last season as well. This is far from the first time the staff has spoken so highly of him. That's all I meant.

All good - it's honestly the first time I've heard it publicly from the coaches about Bell. I thought I heard rumblings that he was out of shape last year, etc., and therefore wasn't doing much.

It would have been nice to have Hatcher for sure, but now it's Ware and Allen (who is going to be really good) and Laster to fill that Jack spot. And to be honest, Hatcher never really reached his potential here....so as far as lost production we haven't lost a whole lot by losing him. Plus, for obvious reasons, he didn't seem to be much of a leader (off field antics). In a weird way, getting busted like that may be the best thing to happen to him.....hope he knocks it out of the park this fall and gets NFL looks next year.

You are correct that Bell is a DE nestled on the depth chart between Miggins and Ke Daniel. Hatcher did play Jack as a Frosh and Soph when Dupree was here but last year he played Sam which is now manned by Allen & Walker.
