I met a woman who was from there and knew some of the people involved. She said the people around thought the killing was wrong, obviously, but really disliked the negative attention they were getting. Thanks for the link, will watch.

Watched it some time ago. Very well done film. I'm usually a harsh critic of anything that deals with the mountains but thought this was fairly handled.

Sad story all around.

Man, that lawyer was a basket case.

It's sad that eastern Kentuckians have been instilled with fear and anger towards outsiders in order to protect the interests of profiteering corporations.

Can you blame them though considering how they've always been portrayed?

The first jury was hung 11-1. Wonder who they bought? That is not strong support from the culture as Mr. Polly suggest. That lawyer is an embarrassment to himself. I knew dozens of people that lived out of company stores and it was no picnic. His bragging about it makes me think his dad was a mine boss.

I am in agreement with John Blue in that 1 year gives the whole state a black eye.

I love eastern kentucky. I love Appalachia. But anyone claiming that growing up in McRoberts was a perfect childhood is too delusional to have a rational discussion on... any subject.

Polly was a difficult attorney to work with but he was a good attorney.

Out of twelve he just needed to convince one. I understand he was good at his job. However, making excuses for a murderer 33 years later is a sad reflection on him as a human being.
