Purchased a 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid . Only came with one key . I can live with that but the previous owner set the volume control while drive at about 40% . Not loud enough for this old rocker . So I go to try to reset the MyKey thing , this is my first Ford in 15 years or so , and have no luck . The owners manual is 533 pages , Good Lord , but I find the info but cant get to the proper menu to reset . So I call Ford and Standard Operational Procedure I get a person with limited English , who proceeds to tell me nothing but " go to a dealer" .
So I call dealer , ask for service . His first question " Do you have both sets of keys" I say Nope , and says " takes both sets to change the settings in the Mykey system " So he offers to sell me a key , tells me 65 buck to program , then transfers me to parts .. Parts says they want 179.00 $ for a key .. at this point I pretty much blow up .. so 260 bucks or so for a ^$$%U^&& ing key I dont need so I can turn up the volume on my radio .. so help . Any other viable alternatives to this ? Youtube video's dont seem to match my car . Maybe order programmable key from Amazon ? This Mykey system is the dumbest idea I've ever seen .. you can also set the speed limit of the vehicle .

Leonardo DiCaprio would be proud of you for getting a hybrid. You should call the previous owner and ask about the other key.

I’m never comfortable with just one key when I buy a car. Something happens to that one key and you’re $&;:(@.

Replacement key fobs are a lucrative source of revenue for car companies, Years ago I ruined one when I left it I my pants pocket and put them in the wash. It costs me $200 for a new one.

Hope the OP finds a workable solution.

I got an extra key and had everything reset by a lock smith in Lafollette TN for about a third of what they quoted you

The 2015 Mazda CX 5 was $300 plus for a new key if I'm not mistaken. Scratched it off the list right away.

I sure hope this seller doesn’t know where you live, if he has the 2nd set of keys he could just drive off with the car...

God I hope the OP doesn't have a smartphone or his grandkids are going to go nuts trying to teach him how to make a call.

I own my own business . I manage 10 employees . I do well over 7 figures in sales a year . I do my own payroll via Quickbooks . So I wouldn't worry about me or my grandkids .

Yet you can't figure out how to change the volume in your car or how to properly use punctuation. You don't put a space both before and after punctuation marks, only after. :joy:

But seriously, good luck. Not having the volume high enough sucks.

So is the MyKey system kind of like parental restrictions where a certain key can only go so fast or use certain features?

And you ended up with the kids key?

[laughing]
Looked up MyKey. This would appear to be the case. Every car these days comes with a minimum of two keys, many two keys and a separate key fob. There's potentially someone walking around out there with the master key to his car. OP probably should have the entire key system, not just the keys themselves, reset on his car so the missing key(s) can't open or operate it.

From what I read, whatever key is starting the car, the other becomes the admin key. It can switch based on which is in the ignition.

There are some locksmiths that can program a second key. Much cheaper than a dealership would charge. Ask around and you might find one.

Get uncut key from ebay. Get key cut code from dealership. Call locksmith. They will cut and program key fob. Had to do this about a month ago because my wife dropped mine in the lake. Total cost was about $100.

In all seriousness, OP, call this guy and he'll hook you right up...

Wang knows a thing or two about keys.

Then why did you buy a used car and with one key?

We bought a 2017 Pilot from Audi of Lexington earlier this year with only one key. I didn't even find out until everything was signed and he was handing us the one key. I asked him where the 2nd key was, and he said they only had the one. By then I wasn't going to kill a deal or renegotiate based on missing a key, and, I didn't even think to ask beforehand because I just assumed it would have two fobs.

So, it happens.

However, unlike OP, I sucked it up and went to Hondaworld and got a 2nd fob. Cost me about $200 because that's just what those things cost these days. For older folks that remember heading to the hardware store for a $5 key copy, that's a tough pill to swallow.
