One of my best friend's father was on an American cruiser sunk in that battle. He was a POW the entire war in Burma, working on the bridges and railway made famous by the movie "The Bridge Over the River Kwai". John said his Dad hated the Japanese till the day he died.

It's one of the few sources of steel that hasn't been contaminated by nuclear blasts. Ships that sank prior to or early on in ww2 are scavenged for steel used in highly sensitive nuclear detection.

Not just Dutch, was a task force of British and US ships also.

Lost a destroyer USS Pope, it's been picked clean.

The steel maybe part of a new Chinese skyscraper.
